Come On Seabiscuit
Ralph Moody
Archway
, 1970
No one thought much of Seabiscuit when he was born. He was knobby-kneed; his head was too big; his legs were too short. He looked as if he would be a disgrace to his thoroughbred ancestors. Considered an outcast by his stable, his owners did not recognize the heart, intelligence, and drive of a potential winner. Not until Tom Smith bought him for the Howard stables could Seabiscuit break the odds against him and surge ahead to greatness. With ...

One of many but not the original
Ralph Moody's book is a warm tribute to the story of Seabiscuit. The illustrations are wonderful and it is written at the level for its intended audience. The original tale of Seabiscuit was written by B.K. Beckwith in 1940, his "saga of a great champion"; Moody realized the lessons inherent in this amazing horse--forgotten even by his time in the 1950s--and he recast the tale for a new audience, ...

A great audiobook
We listened to this on a long road trip, and it kept the children and parents entertained. Jim Weiss has a fantastic voice. It left us wanting to hear more of his stories!

Ralph Moody is to print what Garrison Keillor is to radio...
I first read Mr. Moody's books as a child and then re-read them as an adult. They had lost none of their attraction. He is like the person we all know that can tell a story that captivates and entertains.... This review extends to all of Mr. Moody's autobiographical books; they all fit together in a series.

Wonderfully evocative
I cannot praise Ralph Moody enough. This book is so well structured and well written that it is obviously a "made" work, but that certainly doesn't make it false. It is a truthful story inasmuch as the characters speak as they should, and the times are brought alive as good writing should do. An emotion-packed experience perfect for taking us back one hundred years. Highly recommended!
