50 More Hikes in Ohio (50 Hikes Series)1 review
Ralph Ramey

Countryman Press, 2002

Ramey hits another home run
As the title suggests, this book is a sequel to Ramey's first work, "50 Hikes in Ohio," which in my opinion is the finest guide to Ohio hiking availible. First, I will give an evaluation of this work on its own merits and then compare the sequel to the original. This book describes 50 hikes in the Buckeye state. The hikes are scattered throughout the state, but there is a noticably higher ...

Fifty Hikes in Ohio: Walks, Hikes and Backpacking Trips Throughout the Buckeye State1 review
Ralph Ramey

Countryman Pr, 1990

Excellant for those who enjoy exploring the outdoors
This a great book for hikers in Ohio. It describes in detail many hikes of varying length all over the state. However, sometimes the descriptions in the book don't seem to match the actual trail. A more detailed map and a compass are often helpful. All this is not to say that this is not a great guidebook. The hikes described are beautiful and exciting. I especially recommend Shawnee ...

50 Hikes in Ohio: Day Hikes & Backpacking Trips in the Buckeye State, Third Edition (50 Hikes)2 reviews
Ralph Ramey

Countryman, 2007

Good hikes, but check the map
I really enjoyed this book. I have taken many of these hikes and they fit the descriptions. I was hoping to find the best hikes for my area (northwest Ohio), but there were not many around here. Check the map before you buy to make sure there are hikes in the region you hope to frequent. I should have known there would be few hikes in this area, just given the area and that I could not find ...

Ralph Ramey

Backcountry Guides, 1997

The best hiking in the Buckeye State
This book features some of the best hiking Ohio has to offer. The hikes range in distance from 1.6 miles to over 20 miles, thus accomodating hikers of every ability. Each hike contains a detailed description of the trail, a trail map, usually taken for the USGS maps, and directions to the trailhead. Ramey has a very warm, friendly writing style. In addition, his considerable experience in ...

Ralph Ramey

Perfect Companion for a Weekend Hike
I purchased this book several years ago and it has been my companion on many a weekend hike. In fact, a couple more weekends and I will have visited them all. Ramey includes information about each site, directions and step by step descriptions of what you'll see along the trail. The trails vary from well known and well traveled to obscure and isolated. Although most are of easy to moderate ...
