One of White's Best Doc Ford Novels In TEN THOUSAND ISLANDS Doc Ford and Tomlinson investigate the bizarre case of a dead girl's grave being dug up and her mother's home being burglarized by thieves who are in search of a gold medallion found by the girl shortly before her death several years ago. The Man Who Invented Florida (A Doc Ford Novel) 16 reviews Randy Wayne White
St. Martin's Paperbacks, 1997
A human story, not a thriller I stopped reading the Doc Ford novels after a while because, despite being top of the line Florida thrillers, the histrionic violence and action just got to be too much. Now I find myself wishing RWW would write more stories like The Man Who Invented Florida. This is the one that transcends the genre to become excellent mainstream literature.
If you're looking for an action flick in novel ...

North of Havana 10 reviews Randy Wayne White
Berkley, 1998
One of my all time favorite writers RWW is always excellent! I have read his 1st five books this last year-
normally I get bored with authors and will not read more than 2 a year.
Each story is very different from the previous yet is very much part of the series.
Each character seems authentic and with a voice unique from the others.
Most authors seem to have trouble doing this - their characters talk from the roughly the ...

Sanibel Flats (A Doc Ford Novel) 26 reviews Randy Wayne White
St. Martin's Paperbacks, 1991
Emeralds, Mayan Artifacts, and Gun Runners I enjoyed this first Doc Ford novel. I am trying to read them in order. Doc has to help his high school friend get back his son who has been kidnapped by a Central American General.
When Doc and Tomlison find themselves held captive by this evil man, I thought RWW had written himself into the proverbial corner. Very inventive solution to escape the small army with the boy. Many adventures in ...

Cuban Death-Lift 11 reviews Randy Wayne White
Signet, 2007
Must read for Randy Wayne White fans Even though the names were different (author and hero) the background foundation for Doc Ford is unmistakable and fun to read. Can't wait to read "The Deadlier Sex" as the follow-up to this great begining for Randy (Striker) Wayne White. I also enjoyed White's present day introduction to this book.

Key West Connection 12 reviews Randy Wayne White
Signet, 2006
Randy Wayne was good from the get-go I didn't expect such a good read from Randy's early efforts but this was as good a read as the current Doc Ford stuff especially considering the rules dictated by the publisher concerning the character. Good job, Randy.

Captiva 18 reviews Randy Wayne White
Berkley, 1997
"What a Book" I have read all but a couple of Randy Wayne Whites books and think that Captiva is a great book,The best so far. I just got done reading Sanibel Flats and The Heat Islands and thought they they were very exiciting also, but Captiva left you on on the edge of your seat, wondering what is going to happen next. I really enjoy reading about Florida/Key West mysteries. I find them very satisfying.

Black Widow 15 reviews Randy Wayne White
Putnam Adult, 2008
Great Read This is my first Randy Wayne White book. I have heard the members of my book discussion group rave about his books even though we have never read one of his.
This book was all that was promised and then some. I was hooked on the first page. Now I will start reading the rest of his books.
This book was filled with suspense- but not overloaded with gore. It left a lot to your imagination.

The Deadlier Sex (Dusky Macmorgan) 2 reviews Randy Wayne White
Signet, 2007
MacMorgan and the Island of Beautiful Women Long before Randy Wayne White carved out his own niche in mystery fiction with his Doc Ford novels, he had written a series of adventure novels under the pseudonym Randy Striker. These Dusky MacMorgan books were never intended to be great literature, but instead throwaway thrillers geared towards principally towards men: there was lots of action and lots of beautiful women.
The Deadlier Sex ...

The Deep Six 2 reviews Randy Wayne White
Signet, 2006
Early Randy Wayne White, Good Randy Wayne White Years before Randy Wayne White started writing his wonderful Doc Ford novels - and wound up with the best successor to John MacDonald's Travis McGee - he wrote a series of minor adventure novels featuring ex-SEAL Dusky MacMorgan. As even White more-or-less admits in his introduction to this reissue of these books, these were never intended to be great literature. They were cheap adventure ...

Tampa Burn 23 reviews Randy Wayne White
Berkley, 2005
At the top of his game Randy Wayne White's Doc Ford series started out rather modestly about a dozen years ago. Marion "Doc" Ford is a sort of a cross between Travis McGee and Jacques Cousteau, a marine biologist with a murky past who lives in a house on stilts in the harbor of an island off of Florida's West coast. Ford is the main character and narrator of a series of novels in which he deals with various bad people, ...

The Mangrove Coast (Prime Crime Mysteries) 18 reviews Randy Wayne White
Berkley, 1999
A Sucker for a Damsel in Distress Doc Ford is Marion Ford, Ph.D., a Harrison Ford type marine biologist who lives alone in a stilt cabin on Sanibel Island. Ford is footloose and fancy free until - in each book - his peace and tranquillity is disturbed by a very attractive damsel in distress.
On and off again Ford has been haunted by the death of spook pal Bobby Richardson, who died in an explosion in Cambodia during the ...

Latest novel in the Doc Ford series Dr. Marion "Doc" Ford is a marine biologist who lives in a house on stilts, off the west coast of Florida, and makes a living harvesting and supplying labs and schools with ocean wildlife local to the area. However, he has a dark past, having worked as one of the "Negotiators," a shadowy organization that works for the U.S. Government. The Negotiators have a talk with people who are being ...

Putnam Adult, 2006
Hurricanes and Sunken Treasure This tale had lots of things Florida is famous for like hurricanes and sunken treasure.
I live in Florida and this book brought back lots of memories of Hurricane Charley. RWW accurately describes dealing with the government and insurance companies after a hurricane.
I'd never thought much about WWII and the possibility of shipwrecks from the era. This book kept my interest with its ...

Everglades 14 reviews Randy Wayne White
Berkley, 2004
Everglades a nice return to a series I had abandoned I have been a fan of Randy Wayne White since I first read his columns in Outside magazine. I loved the early books in the Doc Ford series, but felt that they took a dark and offensively misogynist turn somewhere around North of Havana. I stopped reading them after The Mangrove Coast. I joked to a friend that the author must be going through a nasty divorce or something, because he seemed to ...
