My Food/ Mi Comida5 reviews
Rebecca Emberley

L,B Kids, 2002

Great as a supplement or review
This brightly colored book is great to use as an addition to a Spanish curriculum like the workbook Flip Flop Spanish. The sturdy pages continue to wow my classes of ages 3 all the way to 12 years old. If you'd like to introduce your child to Spanish, I might choose an animal, colors, or shapes book before this one. The changes in words based on region, as another reviewer stated, are hard to ...

Great introduction to Spanish for your child!
This series is a great way to introduce Spanish to your child. The board books are sturdy and colorful. Each is theme-based, with food, toys, clothes, numbers etc. Starting out with just words will give your youngster the impetus to move on to more words or even sentences next!

Rebecca Emberley

This whole series is wonderful
I have been using this entire series with my son since he was born, and he is now 14 months. He loves the pictures and turning the pages. The books use the format of one word per page and it gives both the English and Spanish form of the word. This is a great series for early language acquisition.

My City/ Mi Ciudad1 review
Rebecca Emberley

L,B Kids, 2005

A great book for city babies!
Not only is this a good bilingual book, but it's one of the very few "first words" books out there for city kids. There's a great selection of words that will be instantly recognizable to the city kid, with very pleasing graphics.

My Animals/ Mis Animales5 reviews

Great review or word introduction
If you know how to pronounce the Spanish words correctly, this is a great book for toddlers. I've used it with my Toddler Spanish classes, and even my 4-7 year olds as they are learning to form their own opinions and original sentences in Spanish. I love the simplistic, yet BRIGHT pictures and how wonderfully sturdy the slick pages are. Use this along with Flip Flop Spanish workbook, and ...

My Colors/ Mis Colores13 reviews
Rebecca Emberley

L,B Kids, 2000

Previous poster is wrong about translation
It is common knowledge that an article needs to be placed in front of nouns in Spanish and that this is not necessary for English nouns. It is absolutely correct that this was done in this book. "Color café" is a term used quite often throughout Latin America, but especially in Mexico and Central America, to mean brown.

My Numbers/ Mis Numeros8 reviews

A bold bright addition to any collection of children's books
A enjoy looking at this book just as much as my children do. I am a mother of 4 and a preschool teacher. The colors in this book are simple and bold. It is a great resource for teaching Spanish/English and numbers in the classroom. I like the fact that the Spanish words are not the simplest choices. It challenges the Spanish learner in me. I use this book with pre-schoolers mainly 2 year olds. It ...

Piñata1 review
Rebecca Emberley

Little, Brown Young Readers, 2004

Very simple drawings accompany a fine survey
Ages 3-6 will not want to miss Rebecca Emberly's Pinata!, a highly recommended bilingual Spanish/English survey of the items which traditionally stuff piñatas, and how piñatas are enjoyed at a party. Very simple drawings accompany a fine survey of the pinata in all its glory and appeal.

Taking a Walk/ Caminando: A Book in Two Languages/ Un Libro en Dos Lenguas1 review
Rebecca Emberley

Little, Brown Young Readers, 1994

Again error-filled
Once again, Ms. Emberley shows that she is merely opening an English-Spanish dictionary to create her books. From the title, she demonstrates that she is not fluent in Spanish herself and she lacks a deep understanding of Spanish. As any Spanish student can tell you, "Taking a walk" in Spanish is "Dando un paseo" not "caminando." It is idiomatic faults like this one that make her books an utter ...

Three Cool Kids1 review
Rebecca Emberley

Little Brown & Co (Juv Pap), 1998

A good twist
Tired of the same old stories? Then try Three Cool Kids--most children love the fractured fairy tales (just look at the popularity of The Stinky Cheese Man), and this one will be no exception. With big, bold illustrations, this book works for either a classroom, storytime, or a 'cuddle' reading. Children may need to hear the original Billy Goats Gruff first to catch the connection, but even ...

My Garden/ Mi Jardin1 review
Rebecca Emberley

L,B Kids, 2005

Pleasant, But Not a Standout Addition to Our Bookshelf
MY GARDEN/MI JARDIN is a good book. Like other books in this very nice series of bilingual board books, it features Emberley's distinctive artwork. It is a very nice book to read through with a little one, pointing at objects and naming them, so that he can learn the words. This is not Emberley's best, though. While our copy of MY NUMBER/MIS NUMEROS (another book in the series) is becoming ...

Let's Go/ Vamos: A Book in Two Languages/ Un Libro en Dos Lenguas1 review
Rebecca Emberley

Little, Brown Young Readers, 2000

Nice Book for Kids Learning Spanish or English
This is a nice Billingual book in English and Spanish. It can help kids learn either language and make connections. It is easy and very similar to a glossary with words and terms rather than many sentences. Enjoyable to read and look at especially if you have a connection to learning either language.

My Big Book of Spanish Words (My Big Book Of...)1 review
Rebecca Emberley

L,B Kids, 2008

A wonderful board book story for children
In this day and age, it is of great benefit to be bilingual-and it is well-known that young children are master language learners. Is there anything parents can do to begin the multi-language learning process when only one language is spoken in the home? My Big Book of Spanish Words is one tool to begin children on the road to language learning success. This sturdy, colorful, oversized board ...
