An avid reader
Again Rhys Bowen has written an intriguing and well plotted gaslight mystery. Besides the suspenseful plot, Bowen keeps us up to date on Molly's personal life. This episode was an especially good one. I look forward to the next book in the series.

We Need More "Molly Murphy" Detectives!
In addition to the wonderful character of Molly Murphy, I love the descriptions of old NY (of course, I AM a NYer!) esp the conditions of sweatshops, the backbone (and scarlet letter) of the garment industry. many people think of the fancy mansions and the Astors when they think of that time period, before they think of the slums and inquality that existed at the time. also, nice samuel ...

Good installment in a great series
In Like Flynn is the fourth Molly Murphy mystery. Each book gives you enough background that you can read them stand alone if you wish, but they a best read in order. I read the of them in a few days. They are easy reads that blend history, mystery and a little romance very well. Molly is a single young lady who had to leave Ireland in a bit of a rush after an incident involving her ...

After helping the police find a murderer, Molly decides that investigation is the field for her. She badgers Paddy Riley into taking her on as his apprentice in his detective agency. Paddy insists that this was no job for a woman, but lets Molly clean and ...

Marvellous sense of humor
This book was an absolute stitch. I have to say that I took a chance on it merely because I liked the clever title. The author's delightful sense of humor was so engaging, however, that I checked for further titles. This is the introductory book of the series, currently only two (the other being A Royal Pain (A Royal Spyness Mystery))), but I look forward to its extension. If the second book ...

I thought I had this all figured out... Great ending!
Constable Evans finds himself embroiled in another murder mystery in his comfy town of Llanfair in North Wales. He's kicked out of his lovely room; beset upon by the town hoochy; approached to sing in an important competition, feeling woefully out-of-place and has to deal with a hard-drinking ladies'man, world-renowned tenor Ifor Llewelyn. He's up to his eyeballs with a murder and several ...

Charming and Clever
After finishing this thoroughly satisfying cozy, you'll feel as if you had an insider's visit to a charming little village of Llanfair in Wales. The characters actually breathe, the language is just plain FUN, these are people you've sure you have truly met. The writing is clever and inspired and the scenes are wonderfully painted. Constable Evan Evans is the policeman with both a heart ...

Wonderful heroine
I've been a fan of Rhys Bowen for awhile - I really enjoyed her Evan Evans series (Ms. Bowen does a marvelous job of capturing Wales and the Welsh, with all their quirky charm). Molly Murphy is even better. In reading this book, I felt transported to early 20th century New York, with its wild mix of raw immigrants all jostling together toward a new country. And Molly is a great heroine - ...

Won't win the Pulitzer Prize but it's a great cozy mystery
This is the first in the series and my first by this author, but I was not disappointed. It took 25 pages or so to get into the book, but after that, I kept wanting to get back to it. The Welsh setting (in a village by Mount Snowden) figures large in this book. Constable Evan Evans (how much more Welsh a name can you get?) is a Welshman (Welsh is his first language, English his second) who ...

Then the village is turned upside down when some filmmakers arrive. They've come to make a documentary about the raising ...

strong cerebral who-done-it
Evan Evans grew up in South Wales, but fits in fine in the North Wales town of Llanfair as the townsfolk look upon him as one of their own. That situation changes dramatically when he's ordered to assist the Ministry of Agriculture workers about to destroy the farmers' sheep in an effort to stop the spread of foot-and-mouth disease. The villagers feel that Evan should push the government to ...

Add in the fact that his mother is against the upcoming marriage and one would think he has a full plate to deal with. More great work from Rhys Bowen
Rhys continues her excellent series featuring Detective Evan Evans. This book also shows how married life suits him. The plot, once gain, is exciting and the usual loveable Welsh locals bring the usual touch of humour. This book, along with the others in the series is a joy to read as it contains none of the garbage which is dished up by many crime writers today. No obscenities, no ...

Light, maybe, but deep
Evan's Gate Rhys Bowen I pick up one of Rhys Bowen's "Evan" mysteries whenever I'm in need of a fairly quick relaxing read. I know I can rely on this writer, and this series, to give me a thoroughly professional job of writing. Plot, characters, pacing, setting - all are first rate, but unless you are reviewing the book you don't even notice any of them, they're that good. Evan, the Welsh ...
