Ecology and Management of the North American Moose3 reviews

University Press of Colorado, 2007

more info on moose than most people will ever dream of!
If you're a moose-aphile, then this is your book! Every aspect of the moose is covered and includes great pencil drawings and photos. While written for scientists, most of the book is still quite readable for the layperson. I haven't read most of the book, but I do thumb through it regularly, and I always read something else that I never knew about the moose!

Family Therapy: Concepts and Methods1 review
Michael P. Nichols, Richard C. Schwartz

Pearson; Allyn & Bacon, 2006

Repetitive but comprehensive
At first I was put off by the repetitive writing in this book. For example, chapters 2, 3, and then 4 "introduce" the notion of family homeostasis, negative feedback, and the cybernetic model as though for the first time. Why? Then, I decided that this somewhat hypnotic repitition had merit. I was beginning to repeat the words "family homeostasis," in my head, and always found that the name ...

The Mosaic Mind: Empowering the Tormented Selves of Child Abuse Survivors1 review
Regina A. Goulding, Richard C. Schwartz

W. W. Norton & Company, 1995

Excellent for trauma survivors working with their parts!
This book offers a different look at multiplicity and adults healing from severe childhood abuse. I believe this book could be valuable to many abuse survivors trying to understand the different parts of themselves that interfere with their healing, daily functioning, and obtaining success and happiness in their lives. Many abuse survivors talk about being scared to address their different parts ...

Medical Response to Terrorism: Preparedness and Clinical Practice1 review
Daniel C. Keyes, Jonathan L. Burstein, ...

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2004

medical response to terrorism
The Medical Response to Terrorism Textbook is EXCELLENT - I have really enjoyed reading it (and I HATE reading textbooks). Each chapter is up to date, focused, and written in a manner more reminiscent of a novel than a medical textbook. Limiting the number of pages per chapter really forced the authors to be concise and made each topic more inviting to read. Great stuff - Dr. Keyes, et al ...

Internal Family Systems Therapy7 reviews
Richard C. Schwartz

The Guilford Press, 1997

Well written and interesting therapeutic model.
Richard Schwartz clearly explains his therapeutic model of working with sub-personalities (parts) in a way that empowers the client to lead their lives from their Self instead of having one or more of their 'parts' run the show! Although I have intuitively been working this way in a gestalt framework, his model gives many guidelines to make this process smoother and avoid pitfalls in this type ...

Metaframeworks: Transcending the Models of Family Therapy (Jossey Bass Social and Behavioral Science Series)3 reviews
Douglas C. Breunlin, Richard C. Schwartz, ...

Jossey-Bass, 1992

Transcending limitations
This book is not only information rich, it is also about a way of doing therapy with anyone and everyone, including groups of people, in a way whose time has finally come. Metaframeworks is based on the Eastern concept of a Self that is not only more expansive and compassionate, but able to look at the warring factions within a person, relationship or family and make peace. It relies upon the ...

Family Therapy: Concepts and Methods16 reviews
Michael P., Ph.D. Nichols, Richard C., Ph.D. Schwartz

Allyn & Bacon, 1995

Wonderful Overview
I asked my professor for an updated book that gave a large overview of the field of family therapy. Well laid out and shows a variety of different paradigms -- their optimal and nonoptimal techniques, lens, etc.

Surgery of the Aorta and Its Branches2 reviews
Bruce L. Gewertz, Lewis B. Schwartz, ...

Saunders, 2000

Journal of Vascular Surgery Review
Aortic surgery, territory that until recently was only explored by surgical specialists, has rapidly evolved into an area traversed by multiple competing specialties. To stay the course and steer clear of danger, Gewertz and Schwartz have edited a timely monograph on the subject that functions as a review of where we've been, as well as a perspective on where we've going. These editors have ...

The Essentials of Family Therapy4 reviews
Michael P. Nichols, Richard C. Schwartz

Allyn & Bacon, 2001

Great Intro. To Family Therapy.
I am currently taking a Family Therapy course and I mistakenly bought this book. After buying the required text and examining the two, I decided that this one was a "keeper." The authors are practioners in the field who have accumulated years of wisdom and knowledge about how the family functions. They do an excellent job of presenting the major treatment paradigms, without injecting their own ...

Family Therapy: Concepts & Methods (8th Edition)2 reviews
Michael P. Nichols, Richard C Schwartz

Allyn & Bacon, 2007

"The Standard Text" for Family Therapy
Nichols work, now in the 8th edition, is a seminal work in family therapy. This new edition, has some extra-features, which make it even more desireable than the 7th. It is more sympathetic to the postmodern therapies (solutions-focused, narrative), which I either practice or have been heavily influenced by. Nichols work is a great way to "break in" to this field as he survey the field, its ...

California Legal Ethics (American Casebook Series)
Richard C. Wydick, Rex R. Perschbacher, ...

West Publishing Company, College & School Div, 1997

This book is intended for use in California law school courses that teach the fundamentals of legal ethics. Each chapter begins with a set of problems drawn from decided cases, ethics opinions, the writings of scholars in the field, and the authors' experience in teaching and law practice. The authors have provided realistic problems—the kinds that arise with disturbing frequency in the daily practice of law. For each major topic, there is ...

Problems in Legal Ethics1 review
Richard C. Wydick, Rex R. Perschbacher, ...

West, 2005

Decent Textbook, but reading a Rule Book is more Helpful
Normally a law school text book is filled with case after case. Well for those of you who hate reading case after case, then this is the book for you. On average there is only 1 case per chapter, with the remainder of the chapter devoted to ABA opinions and or Law review articles. While the articles are insightful, they really don't give you any more of an understanding of the ABA Rules, than ...

Archaeology of the Grand Canyon: The Walhalla Plateau (Grand Canyon Archaeological Series ; V. 3)
Douglas Wright Schwartz, Jane Kepp, ...

School of American Research Press, 1981

The Walhalla Plateau, part of the Grand Canyon's north rim, was the site of seasonal farming by prehistoric Pueblo Indians who later left behind their agricultural terraces and small stone farmhouses. During the winters, these farmers probably retreated to the warmer canyon below. This book presents data from the School of American Research's survey and excavation on the Walhalla Plateau, discussing the dynamics of settlement expansion and ...
