The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson & the Olympians)87 reviews
Rick Riordan

Topeka Bindery, 2007

Better than the First . . .
This sequel to The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1) is very much more of the same: A pop version of greek mythology, set in the life of a contemporary teenager. The order matters, so you should certainly start with the first book in the series. If you have already read that one, this sequel will not disappoint: Indeed, by not having to lay out the rather ...

Who's yo' Daddy?
Percy Jackson has always been different from other kids. He's dyslexic and suffers from ADHD, and is always getting into trouble. He's been expelled several times, and the only thing that holds his interest is Greek mythology. We soon learn that Percy has close ties with Mount Olympus, and when monsters from mythology start popping up looking for his blood, he ends up at a very special ...

Another Winner from Rick Riordan
I discovered this author about 6 months ago, have read all of the Tres Navarre series and loved every one. Mission Road is just the latest of winners. I won't rehash the plot nor reveal the ending, but it's one of the reasons I love Riordan's writing -- just when you think you're winding down to the ending of the story . . . BAM!, you're in for a surprise.

The Titans Curse
This series was read by my 5th grader who didn't know who the greek heros were. He read it in less than a week and completed the 4 book series in a month. It encouraged him to go on to read other books on mythology. We hope Rick Riordan continues the series! He made education fun for my boy.

The Lightning Thief6 reviews
Rick Riordan

Listening Library (Audio), 2005

Adventurous and exciting
This book is an awesome example of Rick Riordan's great writing. It is a fantastic mix of ancient Greek myth and modern children. From the very beginning this book is adventurous and suspenseful. Percy Jackson, sixth grader, is NOT a normal kid. After his pre-algebra teacher turns into a crazed demon, even more strange things start to happen. He and his mother go on an escape vacation from his ...

Big Red Tequila34 reviews
Rick Riordan

Bantam, 1997

First of a Great Series
I picked up on the Tres Navarre series by Rick Riordan in the middle, with Southtown, which was an incredible novel with indelible characters and a page-turning mystery plot. I had to check out this series from the beginning, and The Big Red Tequila, the first book in the series, didn't disappoint me. Tres Navarre is returning to his hometown of San Antonio after years in California. Two ...

Southtown3 reviews

Bantam, 2004

Rollicking fun in San Antonio
When last we saw Tres Navarre, he was busting up the heroin trade in San Antonio's West Side and considering a more challenging job as a medieval studies professor. Luckily for fans of contemporary crime thrillers, Navarre chose dark alleys over the Dark Ages, and he's back after a three-year sabbatical. Rick Riordan's new "South Town" heralds Navarre's return after publishing his stand-alone ...

I Enjoyed This Book
I enjoyed this book. I am a huge fan of mysteries, especially mysteries like this one. Rick Riordan is a fine story teller, and he captures the multicultural aspects of contemporary Texas perfectly. The Last King of Texas is an excellent book.

Rebel Island10 reviews

Bantam, 2007

Spicier than Texas barbeque sauce
Rebel Island is a "mile-long, thin strip of beach and cord grass that stretches north like a comet's tail. The southern end is half a mile wide --- just big enough for the lighthouse and the rambling old hotel..." The island gets its name from Colonel Duncan Bray, a crazy rebel who fought in the final battle of the Civil War and who was convinced that Rebel Island was Confederate soil. Bray's ...

Percy Jackson in: Diebe im Olymp1 review
Rick Riordan

Carlsen Verlag GmbH, 2006

Blah.
I do NOT have this book, but I believe this is the german version of Rick Riordan's "The Lightning Thief". I checked, and according to an online translator, 'Diebe im Olymp' means "Thieves in the Mount Olympus", so I am guessing, as I said above, that this is the german version of "The Lightning Thief".
