Excellent parallel universe adventure
Mysterium_ by Robert Charles Wilson is a very well done, engrossing earlier work of the author's, one that I don't believe has gotten anywhere near the attention of his later works (such as _Darwinia_, _Bios_, and _The Chronoliths_). It is also unfortunately out of print, though there are a great many used copies out there at relatively cheap prices. _Mysterium_ is a book one could place in ...

Great Anthology...a must for SF readers and writers...
I was able to read the ARC of this book prior to its release, and I was very, very pleased with the selections. I enjoyed 14/21 stories in this, with Robert Charles Wilson's, Paolo Bacigalupi's, Elizabeth Bear's, Louise Marley's, and the Mike Resnick/Nancy Kress piece being my personal faves for their "wow" factor. I recognized some of the stories in this anthology were not to my particular SF ...

What happened?
What happened here? I was expecting AXIS to be at par with the first book, SPIN. I was anxious for this book, and even bought the hardcover version. However, after having read AXIS, I have to say it disappointed me a lot. SPIN succeeded in touching the hearts of readers and bringing the them to the world of the characters. AXIS simply propped up some stereotypical characters just to get the story ...

A real heart wrencher.
This is my favorite story by Robert Charles Wilson by far. Although somewhat short, I will never forget the story. This book has so many unique aspects- a look at alien biology at the microbe level, genetic engineering, an interesting love story- I nearly read it in one sitting and was left wanting more, more, more. (in a good way). I won't give away the ending but throughout I found myself ...

Copying your answers won't teach you anything!
I was required to buy this workbook for one of my classes. Turns out, I didn't really learn anything. The fill-in-the-blank structure was nice, but with the answers printed in the column right next to it? Not so much.

Lobster bisque
First, my negative criticisms: 1. The "lobster-not-a-lobster" alien, who stands still a lot. 2. Wilson's annoying narrator-shifts in mid-scene. 3. Ray, the main antagonist, who didn't enable me to suspend disbelief. He's an SOB to be sure, but there wasn't anything tangibly good about him either (which, I feel, is the mark of a good antagonist). But the good outweighs the bad by a long ...

Very well done
Spin is one of the best Sci Fi novels I have read in a long time. It is not only a unique and throught provoking story, but it is also full of great characters that are developed throughout the book. I really enjoyed it and it was a great look at humanity as well. Great read.

Darwinia wins
Many things could have go wrong with this novel. The concept is so promising that it could have easily been bloated to a 1200 page novel or even a Wheel of Time infinite nightmare. But Wilson of 1998 was a great editor, cutting out all unnecessary subplots and subsubplots, giving his novel excellent pace. It's a shame that it got nominated for Hugo and lost it (double shame it lost it to "to Say ...

GREAT TEXT! Marciej is an idiot
I highly recommend this book to anyone new at the subject, it is really a very good text. The derivations are not confusing at all, in fact they are some of the easiest to follow. The way the book is written makes a hard subject relatively easy to understand. Converting units is one of the easiest thing in the world, and if the problems you have with this book are because of unit conversions ...

Couldn't put it down, and it made me go look up Calabi-Yau
I've been working hard to read a lot of the ARC's I received at Book Expo America and have read and reviewed three. But on a recent trip, I finished one and had only my trusty backup emergency paperback in my bag. It was The Chronoliths by Robert Charles Wilson, recommended to me by my friend Christopher (who also turned me on to Illium). Christopher is 2 for 2; I could not put this book down. ...

A unique scifi story that succeeds as a romance as well!
Wilson is one of the today's best science fiction writers and "A Bridge of Years" is his most moving book. This story of a house that serves as a crossroad in time weaves together the unique romance of an unlikely couple, a reluctant soldier from the future and a mysterious caretaker from an enlightened era. Suspense and insight are expertly balanced in the three storylines. "A Bridge of ...

Long, long before the druids formed, there was (is) a race of blue people who came to earth from a distant star. They came as teachers and friends and helped those who dwelled in what is now England, to understand the Nature of Reality. Stonehenge was built as a landing platform for their ship. Stone was the only reliable, nonmagnetic material available. Decadence set in and they came no ...

The Harvest
Why are all the best books out of print? And why didn't this man get some sort of award for this book? It was an old topic explored in an original way. I read this on a road trip from Ohio to Florida, and I will tell you, I hated when I had to take my turn driving. I could not get my mind off of this book from page one until the end. What an excellent storyteller this author is!

It was a sensation, indeed, when the young British artists took over the art scene in the 1990s. But what came before them? With works from more than 100 artists, Blast to Freeze traces the epoch-making art movements of an entire British century, from the outbreak of World War I to the collapse of the Soviet Union, beginning and ending with a decided break from the traditional. In 1914 a group of young British artists, the Vorticists, in their ...

Archons and Demiurges Populating Northern Lights of Toronto
Robert Charles Wilson's fictions are always a great pleasure to read: populated by heartbroken, sometimes courageous, sometimes tragic characters caught in the galactic spinning wheels not of their design, depicted in elegant, spare and caustically witty prose, and addressing heavy metaphysical questions without losing sight of human-scale sufferings and losses. I sort of regard him as Graham ...
