DAIKAIJU - More than Giant Monsters
I confess, when I picked up this collection, I was expecting a whole bunch of stories of giant monsters trampling over humanity's engineering triumphs. You know, typical giant monster movie fare. What we got was an eclectic collection of stories and poems, which look more at the people and how having giant monsters in their world affect their lives. Some stories are tragic, others are ...

Christopher Hood
,
Henry Rothstein
, ...
Oxford University Press, USA
, 2004
Why does regulation vary so dramatically from one area to another? Why are vast sums spent on controlling some risks but not on others? Is there any logic to the techniques we use in risk regulation? In this work, Hood explores these crucial questions explored. It looks at a number of risk regulations' regimes, considers the respects in which they differ, and examines how these differences can be justified.

In the Wilderness

They were sitting on the Acropolis when he put that question. It was a shining day. The far-off seas gleamed. There was a golden pathway to Aegina. The brilliant clearness, not European but Eastern, did not make the great view spread out beneath and around them hard. Greece lay wrapped in a mystery of sunlight, different from, yet scarcely less magical than, the mystery of shadows and the moon. Rosamund looked out on the glory.--This text refers ...

Mama’s Boy describes the life of author Robert Hood: his early years in a coal-mining village during the Depression, his life in the navy during World War II, and his later professional success. At the heart of Hood’s memoir is his proud and talented mother, who is determined that her headstrong son will become somebody. But the impish boy is more interested in sports than poetry recitations or declamation contests. Anxious to enter the war, ...

Giant Sized Fun
I thought this was the best of the giant monster books. In particular, I liked the zombie Paul Buynan story.

Monsterously good read
The movie review at the end of the book is worth the price alone. The action Joe story was my favorite; think a giant G.I. Joe figure vs. a giant monster. How can you go wrong with that?
