College Algebra, Seventh Edition1 review
Ron Larson, Robert P. Hostetler

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2006

Very easy to understand!
I had been out of school for 10 years when I enrolled into a College Algebra course that used this book. If it would have not been for this textbook, I would have never made it through the course with an A. It is written in a way that builds up in a very easy to understand way and has great sample problems. The review part helped me to catch up within only a week. Very recommended!

After the Fire: The Destruction of the Lancaster County Amish3 reviews
Randy-Michael Testa

UPNE, 1992

After The Fire- A message for us all; a message for our time
Randy Testa has managed to capture what only James Agee could do in his masterpiece "Let Us Now Praise Famous Men". He has managed to draw us in to his account of living within the Lancaster Amish community by being very present to his surroundings during his journey - by being a keen social observer with a moral conscious. We begin to feel we are there along side him: making hay, eating ...

The Nazareth Jesus Knew1 review
Joel Kauffman

Nazareth Village, 2005

Fantastic photographs!
This book contains innumerable fantastic photographs, information on daily life in Jesus' time and illuminating facts about his teachings. For example, with the Prodigal Son, when he put his signet ring on his finger, he gave him the ability to sign documents in his own name. When he kissed him on the neck, he honored him, for the one of lesser status would reach lower, and at the extreme a slave ...

Calculus With Analytic Geometry21 reviews
Ron Larson, Robert P. Hostetler, ...

Houghton Mifflin College Div, 1998

The best book of it's kind.
Every concept and example is explained with just the right amount of words and visual aids. The author has talent. The talent is his ability to pass the relevant information straight to the center of your brain, and the ability to bind the whole subject together. In comparison, Stewart's Calculus book is just a compilation of information. With each new edition, Stewart adds more footnotes ...

Calculus With Analytic Geometry Alternate8 reviews
Ron Larson, Larson, ...

Lexington Books, 1994

Calculus Ain't Easy
First things first: If there was a ten star rating it would apply to this book. Secondly, I found these authors through another of their books, "Precalculus With Limits - A Graphing Approach". That book was just as well written. Truth be told, I would buy any of their books, sight unseen. They are a students teacher and a teachers teacher. They don't sacrifice rigor, nor do they forget the ...

Calculas4 reviews
Roland E. Larson, Robert P. Hostetler

Mcdougal Littell/Houghton Mifflin, 1998

A very well-written student-friendly textbook
One of the best parts of this text book is the beautiful array of supplementary figures and graphs. Many worked out examples provide the reader with a thorough knowlege of the concepts before diving deeper into theory and application. This text book starts at chapter 11 (the reader should have had at most 2 semesters of calculus) Chapter 11 on vectors and geometry of space offer a solid ...

Calculus: Early Transcendental Functions6 reviews
Ron Larson, Robert P. Hostetler, ...

Houghton Mifflin Company, 1999

used this book after 5 year break from Calc I
This book was the textbook for a Calc 2 class that I took. It had been a long time since I took calc 1, and had forgotten most of the information. This book did a nice job of providing clear examples, and thoughtful exercises. It is one of the most readable math books that I have read (and there are a lot of bad ones out there). I would strongly recommend getting the answer guide also, since ...

Calculus of a Single Variable9 reviews
Ron Larson, Robert P. Hostetler, ...

Mcdougal Littell/Houghton Mifflin, 2002

Advanced Calculus... for dummies
I attended the Air Force Academy Preparatory School, and this book was issued to me. It has got to be the most helpful, easily understood, and well written calculus books ever to find its way to a school. The illustrations help visual learners to "see" what a formula looks like in three dimensions in latter chapters, and the practice sets go in order of necessity of learning (i.e. - early ...

Precalculus Functions And Graphs: A Graphing Approach Third Edition2 reviews
Ron Larson, Robert P. Hostetler, ...

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2000

You can't go wrong with Ron Larson
Very lucid and thorough explanations. Excellent coverage. There is also a useful supplement - "Study and Solutions Guide" by Bruce Edwards and Dianna Zook, 3rd ed., 2001 (search for 0618074104 on amazon.com). There is older (2nd ed.,1997; ISBN 0669417297) "Study and Solutions Guide for Precalculus Functions and Graphs : A Graphing Approach and: Precalculus With Limits : A Graphing Approach" ...

Precalculus Seventh Edtition3 reviews
Ron Larson, Robert P. Hostetler

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2006

Precalculus the right way
I used Larson's Precalculus 6th edition which to my knowledge is not being sold anymore. I don't think much was changed from the 6th to the 7th editions so I feel I can offer a credible review of this 7th edition. The sections of each chapter are succint: to the point and coherently explained. Examples using the concepts explained immediately follow and end-of-chapter problems increase with ...

Interactive Precalculus 3.0 Cd-rom11 reviews
Ron Larson, Robert P. Hostetler

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2003

A gem. But beware of Amazon bugs!
I reported them to Amazon months ago - nothing's changed. There are two different books on amazon.com: BOOK 1: "Precalculus 5/e" by Larson & Hostetler (search for 0618052852 on amazon.com). It has a very good supplement - "Study and Solutions Guide" by Dianna Zook (0618072713). Both books were published by Houghton Mifflin Company, which has nice resource site ...

Calculus with Analytic Geometry - 6th Edition32 reviews
Roland E. Larson, Robert P. Hostetler, ...

Great Calculus Book!!!!
Clear and concise with many examples. Compared to other Calc books I've had to suffer through, Larson writes his book with the student in mind. Very user friendly.

Calculus I: Early Transcendental Functions4 reviews
Ron Larson, Robert P. Hostetler, ...

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2006

Wonderful
I love this calculus book. I transfered colleges once and ended up using Larson's at one and Stewart's at the other. In addition, I had to TA a course with Stewart's. I have to say that I think Larson's is more for geared to the Engineers and Science than Stewart's. However, I still think Larson's book works so much better on all majors at introducing Calculus to students that are new to ...
