Leadership: Enhancing the Lessons of Experience11 reviews
Richard L Hughes, Robert C. Ginnett, ...

McGraw-Hill/Irwin, 2005

Excellent book
This was a requirement for my MBA studies. I found the book very informative, well structured, very clear and to the point, with sufficient examples provided to explain the concepts. Leadership is a very broad and deep subject and the authors have managed to make the subject more interesting and engaging. I gained a lot of insight in my own leadership style and was able to identify points that ...

DK ADULT, 2005

The Best
Visually intoxicating! You can learn the secrets of the universe in this one volume. I have numerous DK published books all of which are excellent. However, this is the paragon that all the other books are judged by. Simply, it is the best book that they have ever published. It should be the standard text book for astronomy classes!

101 Great American Poems (Dover Thrift Editions)7 reviews
Edgar Allan Poe, Walt Whitman, ...

Dover Publications, 1998

A Manifested Dream
This book is the manifestation of the dream of former U.S. Poet Laureate Joseph Brodsky when he said, "Poetry must be available to the public in far greater volume than it is." Brodsky believed that poetry books should be distributed free of charge in many places, such as supermarkets and factories. He also had the idea that an anthology of poetry should be, "found in every hotel room in the ...

Songs for the Open Road: Poems of Travel and Adventure (Dover Thrift Editions)2 reviews
Walt Whitman, George 'Lord Byron' Gordon, ...

Dover Publications, 1998

Best book value I know.
It's hard to believe how many of the best poems in English are in this thin little book -- ninety poems for a dollar. I second the action of the Poetry Project in giving it free to lots of people. Buy one for your glove compartment, your office, your study, and your best reader friend!

American Visions: The Epic History of Art in America17 reviews
Robert Hughes

Knopf, 1999

New World Symphony
I have been a fan of Robert Hughes since I fist saw the television show "Ths Shock of the New" and also his criticism in Time Magazine. In this book, he takes as his subject the epic of the American artisitc experience. In lesser hands this could be a dull topic, but thanks to Hughes's enthusiasm and interesting takes on American life, this subject becomes quite fascinating indeed. Hughes ...

The Shock of The New: The Hundred-Year History of Modern Art Its Rise, Its Dazzling Achievement, It's Fall10 reviews
Robert Hughes

McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages, 1990

The rise and fall of modernism
This is based on the script for a BBC program. To be a good TV program, it should have a clear and plain storyline which could fit into limited timetable. You can identify such a feature in the form of book, though substantially enlarged. The author did his best to make a clear impression of what was modernism in the visual art on reader (and audience). The author begin the book with what ...

Barcelona13 reviews
Robert Hughes

Vintage, 1993

Detailed enough to get you in trouble with the natives
While "Barcelona" was intended as a social and artistic history, not as a guidebook, it is sufficiently detailed as to have gotten a friend of mine in trouble there. Few stones are left unturned. One is an exploration of Catalan nativity scenes. These include, typically, a figure of a squatting peasant defecating, symbolic of the fertility of the soil. Characteristically, Hughes knows of a ...

Essentials of Christian Theology6 reviews
Stanley J. Grenz, John B., Jr. Cobb, ...

Westminster, 2003

Excellent overview of contemporary theology
As a seminary student who read this book over the summer, not for a class, but just to keep up my theological "chops," I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone wanting to explore different facets of theology from a multitude of viewpoints. The best use of this book is to read the introductions and the essays, and note the authors and issues of interest for future exploration. Because of the ...

Discover a place which becomes a true home town
This small volume overflows with passion for Barcelona's art and architecture, subjects Hughes generously expands to include cultural history, food, and politics, as well as sketches of his personal engagement with Barcelona's people and the creative life-force of the city. Hughes writes, "You are lucky if not too late in life, you discover a second city other than your place of birth which ...

Business: Looseleaf3 reviews
William Pride, Robert Hughes, ...

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2006

Very User-Friendly
Yes, the book has many additions to the text. I found them very useful and insightful, and they assisted in offering a connection between the text and the real world in most cases. I am taking correspondance courses, so this book is all I have, and I think it's great. The authors speak in a way that's easy to read and understand. I don't like reading much, but this book made it easy.
