The Ancient Maya15 reviews
Robert J. Sharer, Sylvanus Griswold Morley

Stanford University Press, 1994

Latest edition of "classic" text
This is by far the most comprehensive book about the ancient Maya. There are several excellent shorter ones; this is the go-to book for thorough reference. It has become almost as "classic" as Maya civilization. Sharer reminisces about being "hooked on" Maya studies by the third edition (by Morley and Brainerd, 1956); so was I, back when it was newly minted. How much has changed since. ...

Discovering Our Past: A Brief Introduction to Archaeology2 reviews
Wendy Ashmore, Robert J. Sharer

McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages, 2005

Not like most college textbooks
I'm currently a student and i'm taking an Introducion to Archaeology course because I've always been interested in learning a little bit about archaeology. This is the book that I have to use for my class and most of the time I dread having to read the books in any of my classes, but this book is an exception. Even if I wasn't taking the course in college, I would enjoy reading this book. ...

Daily Life in Maya Civilization (The Greenwood Press Daily Life Through History Series)1 review
Robert J. Sharer

Greenwood Press, 1996

Everything you Need in One Book
I don't know whether Professor Sharer wrote this book to be a college textbook. It certainly can be used as one for an overall basic survey of Mayan civilization for the undergraduate. In case you were wondering, it is most definitely not of the "Daily Life in Ancient Rome" type of book that was so popular when I was a kid. This is adult stuff. Not that the book is slow; on the contrary, it is ...

Archaeology: Discovering Our Past2 reviews
Robert J. Sharer, Wendy Ashmore

McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages, 2002

Decent book but needs more pictures
I had this as my main text for a class at Foothill college and it was a relatively easy read if you use the glossary. Their could have been more pictures of the items discussed and I would recommend to any teacher thinking of using this book to gather some more higher quality pictures of the items discussed for the student to look at.
