Great book about your brain and your body in the world
I absolutely LOVED this book! I read it very quickly and had trouble putting it down. It is fascinating, educational, funny, enjoyable and well written about complex issues. Sapolsky, who is the author of A Primate's Memoir, The Trouble with Testosterone and Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers, is a professor of biology and neurology at Stanford and a recipient of a MacArthur "genius" grant. I found ...

An All Time Favorite
This book is hard to classify: Is it autobiography? Primatolgy? Travel adventures? Humanist philosophy? Humor? Basically it is all of these and more. It is a real page turner. Sapolsky has a truly marvelous sense of humor that includes knowing how to laugh at himself. I rank it with in the top 10 favorite books I've ever read. Bravo!

The TROUBLE WITH TESTOSTERONE: And Other Essays on the Biology of the Human Predicament13 reviews
Robert M. Sapolsky

Scribner, 1997

A great collection of essays by a brilliant writer
Is it possible for a man who has won a MacArthur genius grant to be underappreciated? Reading this set of essays I have to wonder why Sapolsky is not as widely read and commented on as Dawkins, Sacks, Gleick and those other few at the absolute pinnacle of popular science writing. The tales here cover his familiar subjects: the mind and emotions (one is tempted to say the soul), stress and ...

Stress, the Aging Brain, and the Mechanisms of Neuron Death (Bradford Books)1 review
Robert M. Sapolsky

The MIT Press, 1992

This book is the reason I became a neuroscientist
True. Though probably not for beginners, this book is probably good for anyone with alittle college experience in biology. Sapolsky writes in his normal clear, thoughtful style to explore the affects of stress on the brain. The ability of this book to describe a scientific problem and then explore the experiments and the analysis of experiments to come up with a hypothesis demonstrates the ...

A Primate's Memoir: A Neuroscientist's Unconventional Life Among the Baboons1 review
Robert M. Sapolsky

Scribner, 2001

Entertaining and enlightening memoir of primate life.
As much fun to read as any book by Redmond O'Hanlon or Gerald Durrell, A Primate's Memoir is funny, irreverent, and full of adventure, while also being a serious scientific study of the savanna baboons of Kenya. Sapolsky's goal is to determine the relationship of baboon stress levels to their overall health over a period of years. A neuroscientist, he observes the social hierarchy and ...

Why Zebras Don's Get Ulcers: An Updated Guide to Stress, Stress-Related Diseases, and Coping.42 reviews
Robert M. Sapolsky

Barnes & Noble, 1998

Excellent, well written book
I will admit that it can be a bit technical for a few folks. His book makes you feel that he is teaching you in a classroom. The citations and references are informative.
