God's Prosperity Plan1 review
Rod Nichols, Tim Johnson

Infinity Publishing, 2004

It was such a blessing to read God's Prosperity Plan!
It was such a blessing to read God's Prosperity Plan! This book really opened my mind and heart as to the plans that God has for us. It really taught me about being obedient to God and helped me realize that everything we have is HIS! However, my husband has not read the book and is not in agreement about tithing. For me, it's something that seems natural to do but I was a bit ...

Captive Warriors: A Vietnam P.O.W.'s Story (Texas A & M University Military History Series)7 reviews
Sam Johnson, Jan Winebrenner

Texas A&M University Press, 1992

Excellent and well-written
While I would never claim to understand what Sam Johnson went through, I can't imagine a book doing a better job of expressing what it's like to be a POW than this one did. The description of his experiences was detailed without being tedious, and the book was both disturbing and uplifing -- disturbing due to the brutality of Johnson's captors, but uplifting because of his faith and optimism. ...

Professional JSP 2nd Edition23 reviews
Simon Brown, Robert Burdick, ...

Wrox Press, 2001

Good as a Novel
This book is awesome. The one thing I truly love about this book is the layout. I had zero experience in JAVA/J2EE and after the first chapter it all made sense. I Actually make time to read this book. The one thing this book does that no other I have read is tech the low level nuts and bolts along with top level syntax and make it make sense. For instance, the chapter on Servlets rocks. It ...

Expert One-on-One J2EE Development without EJB29 reviews
Rod Johnson, Juergen Hoeller

Wrox, 2004

Component and J(2)EE development classic
By now a classic, this book eloquently expressed how the Corba component design committees came up with an EJB specification that was not an ideal cornerstone for all J(2)EE applications. Although very fit for selected purposes the early EJB specs had to evolve to EJB 3 to really leverage the power of Java. Fundamentals of component based flexibility often lost on OO design are explained well, ...

Expert One-on-One J2EE Design and Development (Programmer to Programmer)34 reviews
Rod Johnson

Wrox, 2002

Excellent book - Needs updated code samples and J2EE 1.4 support
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, particularly well-thought out design guidelines for developing J2EE application with or without EJB. The author introduced several best practices particularly the concepts and usage of Spring and Hibernate based j2ee development is quite helpful. In addition to this book, I find patterns and bestpractices from "Core J2EE Patterns /Deepak Alur", "Core ...

Professional Java Server Programming J2EE, 1.3 Edition19 reviews
Subrahmanyam Allamaraju, Cedric Beust, ...

Wrox Press, 2001

Still The Best Around
Although it's several years out of print, I haven't found a better introduction to J2EE textbook and thus, am still using it in my classes. Think it's not worth it? ... better buy one fast because the price of the used ones is going up instead of down. Another remarkable feature of the book is that the original code still runs fine on Tomcat 5. Multi-author? yes, but since one of them is ...

Professional Java Development with the Spring Framework26 reviews
Rod Johnson, Juergen Hoeller, ...

Wrox, 2005

Can't really say
I lent it to a guy on my development team, and now I can't seem to get it back. He must like it. (!) One thing I really appreciated was the comparative tables showing benefits and tradeoffs of using the different web frameworks with Spring. The book does seem a bit shallow for the number of topics presented -- should have been a couple thousand pages to cover everything I'd like to know.
