A Must-have!
My son LOVES the Captain Bob books and I love reading them. Tons of energy, lots of imagination and Terrific illustrations. They've kept him entertained from age 2-4!! I don't think this one should fall under "Baby-Preschool". My son's almost 5 and we still laugh at this one.

The nicest little girl in the 'world'
When's the last time you did something nice for your Mama? Huh? How about for her birthday? What, you ask, flowers aren't enough? I write, I call ... Well, little Luisa has you beat hands down. Her Mama works at Walter's World of Beauty transforming the neighborhood divas into raging beauties, or, uh, at least gussied-up versions of their middle-aged selves. But Mama wears a tired expression, ...

F Is for Freedom4 reviews
Roni Schotter, C. B. Mordan

DK CHILDREN, 2000

An early chapter book about literacy & friendship
A gripping and emotional story that says a lot about the transcendant nature of friendship and the value and power of literacy. Set at the time of the Underground Railroad this is a great book for early chapter book readers, especially children in 3rd through 6th grade. It gives a real glimpse of the world of that time as seen through the eyes of a ten year old Northerner who discovers that her ...

Captain Snap and the Children of Vinegar Lane (Orchard Paperbacks)1 review
Roni Schotter

Orchard Books (NY), 1993

A book to share and enjoy...
I found 'Captain Snap' to be an intriguing book for all ages, particularly when using it with a few children all gathered 'round so we could examine the marvellous illustrations in great detail. As the above review points out, it is a familiar story line, but for those of us who are either young, or young at heart, it can be made new again. The descriptive language draws you in, and the ever ...

When The Wizzy Foot Goes Walking1 review
Roni Schotter

Dutton Juvenile, 2007

Fun book!
Wizzy Foot is a very busy toddler and my (almost) 3 year old loves him! The story has a fun rhyming text that takes you from morning to night in a day at Wizzy Foot's house. My son wants to read the book each night before bed, so it's nice that Wizzy Foot goes to bed at the end of the book too. The illustrations are wonderful, colorful, and fun for kids to point out things in. My family ...

Room for Rabbit1 review
Roni Schotter

Clarion Books, 2003

My Four-Year-Old Gets It
Well crafted gentle story about a young child going between home with Mom and home with Dad and "his Peggy" after her father's re-marriage. Will there be room for her beloved stuffed companion? Made my daughter think and process my own remarriage and her place in a step-family in a new way. Very helpful.

Roni Schotter

Clarion Books, 2002

Rabbit goes everywhere with Kara: to Papa's house, where they eat "oodles of noodles" and play hide-and-seek, and to Mama's house, where they eat chicken and rice and dance. But one day, when it's time to leave Papa's house for Mama's, Rabbit asks, "Where do I live?" Kara doesn't know the answer. When Rabbit asks to stay at Papa's house, Kara leaves her toy behind, but she misses Rabbit at Mama's house. What is the answer to Rabbit's question, ...

I really enjoyed Dreamland. The story transported me into Theo's imagination. Roni Schotter painted a vivid picture of Theo's dreams and yearnings. It portrays a very positive image for children to follow their dreams and to honor their ideas.

Purim Play1 review
Roni Schotter

Little Brown & Co (Juv), 1998

Sweet as Hamantaschen
Purim celebrates the story of Queen Esther, who married Persia's King Ahasueras and saved the Jewish people from the wicked Haman, who plotted to kill them all. On Purim, Jewish congregations retell the long happy tale (hence the phrase, the whole Megillah) and often give a Purim spiel, or play. Children attend costumed as Haman, Mordechai or Esther, and jeer and swing their noisemakers each time ...

Captain Bob Sets Sail9 reviews
Roni Schotter

Atheneum/Anne Schwartz Books, 2000

Courtesy of Kids @ Teens Read Too
Captain Bob is one of my kids' favorite characters. CAPTAIN BOB SETS SAIL is another winner, with gorgeous, up-close illustrations and a fun storyline. While taking his bath, Bob imagines himself the Captain, setting sail on the open sea, dodging the waterfalls, and avoiding the many hidden dangers of the tumultuous open waters. Definitely a great bedtime story, and also great for ...

Passover!3 reviews
Roni Schotter

Little, Brown Young Readers, 2006

PASSOVER!
What a delight to have a Passover book for young children that doesn't include the ten plagues! This author's elegant solution: "Moe sits in a lap to be sure he can see./ Together we read the story of how, now, we are free." In sweet rhyming verse, this picture book celebrates the warmth of family and Passover traditions. Grandparents arrive for the Seder with Mama, Papa, their three ...
