Alternative History for History Buffs
A fun read for those who are interested in History of Civilization. It reminded me of the old Saturday Night Live skit, "What if Sparticus had an airplane". The writer obviously did his research, especially into indo-earopean languages.

There should be more like this...
_The Cage_ is one of the best works of sf/fantasy written in the past two decades. It is a tragedy for the genre that there aren't more novels like this one being written these days. Like the rest of the Fifth Millennium series (Mr. Stirling, Ms. Meyer, Ms. Wehrstein, if you're reading this, won't you please think about writing a few more for us?), it is set in a brilliantly crafted future ...

Great ... but a reprint
I adore this series: It is bright, creative and amazing. Exceptional writing. The only complaint I have is that it is a reprint of two previous editions, not a new book. If you haven't read the series, you should really give it a try. If you have, and want a better copy, buy this book.

A real twist in the tale.
I have been reading avidly Jerry's War World books for years ( Not easy in the UK ), and to read a full novel rather than short stories was a great pleasure. The story is very well written and readable ( I have now read it many times, normally in one sitting ). The main characters are easy to identify with and follow, and the story has many intresting strands. Those of you that are War World ...

My favourite B&B book
City Who Fought is an amazing book which I really love. The characters are all very real and three-demensional. I found myself so drawn into the story that I forgot about many other things, including my favourite tv show. I stayed up til...bout 2:30 AM reading this book, so that I could find out what happened to Simeon, Joat, Channa, and the rest of them. My favourite character was Simeon, of ...

The Civil Government controls only a portion of the planet and has been pushed out of the Old Residence, the original capital. ...

Excellent Entertainment
The author puts forward some very interesting ideas in this book, and they play out just they way you'd hope in the rest of the series.

My first Stirling book, but definitely not my last!
"There is a technical, literary term for those who mistake the opinions and beliefs of characters in a novel for those of the author. The term is 'idiot.'" This quotation from speculative fiction writer Larry Niven is part of S.M. Stirling's dedication for Conquistador: A Novel of Alternate History, and its appropriateness cracked me up because I am only too familiar with readers (and heaven help ...
