An excellent guide to "just" the islands!
The principal difference between this book and "Frommer's Greece" is that this one covers the option of selecting a cruise of the islands, and that section is very good. So, if a major concern is choosing a cruise line (or ship) for your Greek vacation, take a look at this guide. Otherwise, "Frommer's Greece" covers all the mainland (and all the islands) for the same price. Frommer's stands out ...

Frommer's Greece
I found this latest guide to be just what I was looking for. This covered all the areas of interest to me and gave specific info as to accomodations, travel time, and helpful hints. It has enough glossy photos and the layout was easy to follow. A good purchase!

Good, but not perfect
"Blue Guide Greece" is wide-ranging, but its site descriptions and directions are often very skimpy; it should be supplemented with the excellent "Greece: an Oxford Archaeological Guide", which doesn't attempt to cover as much ground but does go into much more detail on the places it does mention.

Great for yourself or as a Gift
Gave this as a gift to a friend who traveled Europe for 3 months on a study abroad program with her college. She used it every step of the way. Some people just don't think to buy something like this for traveling because they don't know that it even exists!

This is the Greece of sacred monasteries, where manuscripts of ancient authors were preserved and exquisite frescoes and mosaics were created. This is the Greece of Mistra, of Mount Athos, and of a thousand roadside shrines and chapels. And this is the Greece of the ...
