Not Always So: Practicing the True Spirit of Zen26 reviews
Shunryu Suzuki, Edward Espe Brown, ...

HarperOne, 2003

Be a frog...
Outstanding book with insight into a true Zen master. Written after the passing of Suzuki Roshi by one of his students, it is an insight into a beautiful man. Not always so is a simple book with a single teisho or talk every couple of pages. This allows you to read one talk and digest it without having to delve into any serious brain bending. Suzuki Roshi presents the most complex ideas of ...

Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind134 reviews
Shunryu Suzuki-roshi

Audio Literature, 1988

A must have book for meditation teachers and practitioners
As a meditation teacher I found this text invaluable in understanding Zen Buddhism's meditation methods. It is important when teaching to have knowledge of different philosophies and teachings of meditation. Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind is a foundation text for this understanding. I have already recommended it to others. A great buy and, I should add great service from Amazon for us antipodeans. ...

Branching Streams Flow in the Darkness: Zen Talks on the Sandokai5 reviews
Shunryu Suzuki

University of California Press, 2001

A long wait
This is an excellent little book. It is based on the a series of talks that were given by Shunryu Suzuki in a sesshin lead by him, as it happened near the end of his life. The book in my view would be suited to a more advanced practitioner rather than a beginner. However all would benefit by reading it. The book gives a line by line explanation of the "The Identity of Absolute and Relative" ...

To Shine One Corner of the World: Moments with Shunryu Suzuki7 reviews
David Chadwick, Students of Shunryu Suzuki

Broadway, 2001

I love this book
Yet another stunning book from David Chadwick. Though it resembles a classic koan collection, Chadwick deftly skirts the hazard of presenting a collection of "profound stories". Chadwick's own considerable personality is not in evidence, the tone of the book is always sweetly understated, and the reader is not obligated to grapple with worshipful pretensions to piety. What fun.....

Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind Journal1 review

Amber Lotus, 2004

Need to use it
It's a book of blank pages which is hard to critique. Nice hard cover, though and elastic band to keep book closed. It is to be used in conjunction with Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind which I'm just starting to read.

Zen Mind 2009 Wall Calendar
Shunryu Suzuki

Amber Lotus Publishing, 2008

The mind of Zen Buddhism is revealed through authentic sacred art and profoundly simple wisdom. Zenga art, Zen-inspired brushstroke paintings, surprises and confounds our expectations. Although created by 17th and 18th century monks who were amateur painters, they have a startlingly modern appeal. The Gitter-Yelen collection of Zenga paintings is widely regarded as one of the preeminent collections in the West. Each month, the Zen Mind 2009 ...
