Great for Bible Studies This is an excellent Bible study. The group facillator is set up for success with great questions. The DVD is a must for this study. This has been a great learning experience for our group. The book has personal daily sessions to dive much deeper into scripture and a weekly group session.

Like Your Neighbor?: Doing Everyday Evangelism On Common Ground 1 review Stephen W. Sorenson
InterVarsity Press, 2005
Convicting, inspiring, & practical. Basic, one-to-one ministry to one's neighbors is something I've always been interested in and wanted to know better how to do. This book didn't disappoint.
Sorensen goes through the common mental hurdles Christians need to get over in ministering to the lost (What if I don't know what to say? What if they try to mug me? What if they laugh at me? I'll bet they couldn't be bothered. I'd probably ...

If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat: A 6-Session Journey on Learning to Trust God 1 review John Ortberg
Zondervan, 2003
What an encouragement I'm reading this book for the 4th time since November. I keep finding more useful information each time I read it (verifiable by the amount of the text that gets hilighted each time I read it). I've taken the "Bob Challenge" that the author challenges the reader with and it has been a great success. It is also a great sequel for anyone currently going through or who has gone through the ...

The Life That God Blesses I have never written a review before, but this book gave me the heart to do it. It is a must read! I can't say enough about how it has truly inspired me to step out in faith and trust in God. I want to read all of the other books that he's written as well.

Going Public With Your Faith: Becoming A Spiritual Influence At Work Leader's Guide (Groupware) 7 reviews William Carr Peel, MD, Walt Larimore
Zondervan, 2004
A Biblical View of Evangelism I will not attempt a thorough review of the book. Here are a couple posts from my blog that I put up as our elder team was going through it:
First post: We are concerned for a greater external focus in our congregation. The chapter we read last pm is entitled: "Earning the Right to be Heard." Whereas many evangelistic texts or theories begin with an evaluation of the target audience, the ...

The Church God Blesses 5 reviews Jim Cymbala, Stephen Sorenson
Zondervan Publishing Company, 2002
A Soggy Sermon Worth Reading One reviewer called this book a soggy sermon. I can't agree. I found it to be a challenge to the complacent Christianity that is so prevelant today. Jim Cymbala, as always, keeps it simple and right to the point. The illustrations, scriptural applications, admonitions, and encouragement were very relevant to today.

When God's People Pray Participant's Guide: Six Sessions on the Transforming Power of Prayer ... 6 reviews Jim Cymbala
Zondervan, 2007
Experiencing Transforming Power of Prayer in Mississippi! Just completed facilitating a six week Bible study using this cirruculum along with the DVD (which is sold separately) and it was a transforming time. The study is easily assimilated and the study is written for one to do immediate application of each lesson. Pastor Cymbala explains things in a very comprehensible manner. The prayer stories based on real-life people that are members at ...

Zondervan, 2004
Community Health Center Using This Book The draw of this book is evident in that patients at our clinic have asked for copies of posters we designed based on the book. Dr. Larimore does a great job of consolidating research into bite-sized nuggets for practical application.

The Best of E. M. Bounds: 120 Daily Devotions to Nurture Your Spirit and Refresh Your Soul (Honor Classics)
Honor Books, 2006
This book highlights the messages of the great Christian author, E.M. Bounds. The language has been gently modernized for greater relevance to contemporary times, but none of the spiritual substance has been diluted. These will be tremendous additions to any Christian library! The material is profound, thought-provoking, and life-changing but easy to follow. These books are perfect for Christians who want to dig deeper and be challenged to ...

Zondervan, 2005
I guess I am a below average Christian Comments from commenter #2 crack me up. I have heard many folks refer to John Ortberg as "Dallas Willard Lite" or "Dallas for dummies." I have had the opportunity to spend time with both the author and his wife, and I find both his speaking and writing to be very refreshing to my mind, spirit and life. I find John's writing simple and practical. Is it Dallas Willard deep? No. However, it's ...

The Life You've Always Wanted Leader's Guide: Six Sessions on Spiritual Disciplines for Ordinary People ... 2 reviews John Ortberg
Zondervan, 2004
UM Pastor Excellent material and presentations. Very effectively invites all to enter into spiritual disciplines which will open for them the lfe they've always wanted. Only problem is that is too much material for the suggested hour format. If used in Sunday school, I'd stretch it to 12 sessions (2 per lesson) to give more time for discussion and the Bible study segments.

Zondervan, 2005
Great study materials The package was a complete one; book, study guide, PowerPoint, & video presentations. I read the book first, then proposed it to my church as a book study, which they enjoyed very well. John Ortberg is a good author and presenter of his materials, challenging common ideas about God with correct biblical ones.

God's Grace from Ground Zero: Seeking God's Heart for the Future of Our World 4 reviews Jim Cymbala, Stephen Sorenson
Zondervan Publishing Company, 2001
Adequately achieves what it sets out to do Jim Cymbala draws from personal stories from the Brooklyn Tabernacle, along with a number of his own life experiences, in seeking to demonstrate God's grace in the midst of 9/11. While this book is far from a comprehensive Christian response to the events of 9/11, it mostly succeeds in painting an inspirational portrait of God and how He has been working throughout New York City and the nation, ...

You HAVE to have the video series to use this! This book MUST be used in conjunction with the video series. It cannot be used as a stand-alone guide to reading through the Bible in 3 months. Unfortunately, it was a waste of money. Nevertheless, I continue to enjoy Bible reading at less than warp speed. :)

The Life You've Always Wanted Participant's Guide: Six Sessions on Spiritual Disciplines for Ordinary People ... 5 reviews John Ortberg
Zondervan, 2004
Very good Bible Study
I am using this book and video in an adult Bible study with 17 participants. It is a good study which shows you how to live and love like Jesus did. John Ortberg uses humor and touching stories to get his point across. Another thing that I like is that you are referred to scripture to see how Jesus faced the same problems that we face in our daily lives.
