Mayes Midwifery
This is an excellent textbook for those studying to be midwives. It is well set out with easy to read information about all aspects of midwifery. Although written for English midwives the knowledge it shares is relevant to midwives from around the world (buyer studied midwifery in New Zealand). This is also much cheaper than buying from a university book store.

Lee Falk would be proud.
These stories are bringing The Phantom back to life and doing it very well. There is one story I found to be a long stretch, but I'm not reviewing stories, but a volume of stories. In this volume the Deep Woods call, The Ghost Who Walks remains undying, justice prevails over the darkness of the world, and even when The Phantom seems helpless, he is just about ready to make his next move. A must ...

Invaluable Resource
I am not an architect, but I am a city planner and frequently work with architects and draft zoning codes which govern architecture. To me, this book is worth the money simply for the "lexicon" at the beginning which describes and illustrates the key elements of traditional building construction. No other book I have used provides these descriptions in such a readily understandable way. Most ...

Out of tragedy, a hero is born! In the roaring heart of the crucible, steel is made. In the raging flame of personal tragedy, men are sometimes forged into something more than human. Wealthy and successful at an early age, Richard Benson was preparing to enjoy a long and happy life with his family when crime took away his wife and young daughter. Once he was just a man, but now he is a machine of vengeance dedicated to the extermination of all ...

A great anthology!
I'm using the Longman Anthology of the Romantics and their Contemporaries (3d edition) for the first time in my 3d-year Romantics course (enrolment 88 and counting!) -- I would like to thank the editors for doing a fantastic job -- the introductory essay (pp. 3-29) is truly unparallelled for clarity, scope, and intelligence -- absolutely filled to the brim with great, challenging ideas. The ...

A refreshing break from the norm
Finally, an exhibition about street photography OUTSIDE of New York City. Although there was certainly a bias for American photographers, one can argue that, as far as the Western world is concerned, America essentially invented the "street" aesthetic (thanks, particulary to Robert Frank) as a decisive rejection of documentary photography (a la the FSA years) and photojournalism. Regardless, it ...

Insightful, interesting, and helpful
Her book is written for an age that has little material as well designed. It is insightful, interesting, and intelligently simple for children. I will buy for all my grandchildren.

Excellent!
Sue Henderson shows a remarkable and rare ability to get to the heart of things. She remembers. She remembers the important details and she can remind us just how it was, how it felt. She writes beautifully. I loved this story.

In 1996 and again in 2001, researchers at Boston College surveyed a representative sample of urban Catholic elementary school in the United States. Based on these empirical data, the authors provide insights into this sector of Catholic education. The first chapter of the book examines the legacy of urban Catholic schools and offers a theological and historical rationale for their continued existence. The next chapter examines student ...

Excellent variety of selections
I appreciate the breadth and balance of the selection of materials in the Longman Anthology, particularly in comparison with the Norton Anthology. While the Norton Anthology has more prestige, it has some curious choices of material (granted I own the 7th edition some improvements may have been made in newer issues). Where the Longman anthology (in a one-volume anthology no less) has a verse ...
