Prehistoric World (Usborne World History)1 review
Fiona Chandler, Sam Taplin, ...

Usborne Books, 2002

Great introduction to the history of life on earth.
My wife bought this for my son from Scholastic Book service and then it ended up becoming a bit of an obsession for my son and I. We have spent hours looking up the various creatures and studying fossils. This book is brief, but the illustrations are fantastic and evocative and give a good grounding of the great ages in the evolution of life on earth. The focus is broad an inclusive - from the ...

Better than "I Spy"
This is a great book. It's much like the better know "Great City Search" and "Great Animal Search" books published by Usborne, but it is a bit easier for younger kids (my 3-year-old had no problems). The illustrations are very attractive, and many of the items were challenging for my 5-year-olds as well. Since you're looking for more than one of most items, the book is a nice counting ...

Lonely Planet South Pacific1 review
Geert Cole, Leanne Logan, ...

Lonely Planet Publications, 2003

Incomplete
A typically good LP guide, but be aware that while earlier editions of the title included the whole South Pacific area, this edition does not include Micronesia. (And LP hasn't updated their micronesia guide since 2000.) So if you're planning to visit Kiribati, Palau, or other countries in Micronesia, this guide won't meet your needs.

Great search book
I disagree with the "baby-preschool" description of this book. I think it's a little too busy for babies, and I also think children in the early grades would really enjoy finding the animals on each page. (I used to teach fourth grade, and I think this would even enthrall a lot of early-mid elementary aged kids as well.) Every page shows a different setting, and it gives a number of how many ...
