This is by far the most comprehensive book about the ancient Maya. There are several excellent shorter ones; this is the go-to book for thorough reference. It has become almost as "classic" as Maya civilization. The Sixth Edition is now out, but this edition is still of use, if you are seeking a comprehensive introduction to Maya civilization.

very detailed
This book is a very detailed explanation of the mayan calender and associated hieroglyphic symbols. I liked this book but was writted before the deciferment of the mayan written language.
