Bedtime Book of Bible Stories2 reviews
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2003

Wonderful Stories and fun illustrations
The Bedtime Book of Bible Stories is designed for toddlers and young children, but will still appeal to early elementary age children. My youngest son and I enjoyed the book before bedtime, sharing the stories and prompted to conversation by the questions at the end of each of the stories. He is a third grader and is familiar with many of the old and new testament stories in the book, but still ...

Atlas of the Bible and Christianity1 review

Baker Pub Group, 1997

The best atlas?
I have about 10 atlases about the Bible, and this is by far the best. Also all the maps about the history of Christianity are excellent, I only wish that there would have been more for Europe (Dechristianization) in the modern times.

Bible Atlas (Essential Bible Reference)3 reviews
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 1990

Excellent Companion to Bible for Both Child and Adult!
This is definitely a worthy purchase if you have a child and as well if you (admit it) still get mixed up a bit with Middle East geography, especially when it comes to what an area was called years ago and what its present-day name is. When you read a passage to your child, show him with this each time where that scripture was taking place at that time period (the atlas shows name changes and ...

My First Christmas2 reviews
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2006

My son's favorite Christmas book!
This is just the best toddler/preschooler Christmas book! I ordered it from Focus on the Family for my son in early December when he was almost 3 1/2 and we had to read it every day in December and January (and I mean EVERY day!) He would run to get it when he woke up in the morning and ask me to read it while he put the characters on the pages. I debated getting it because the title makes it ...

Donkey to the Rescue: The Good Samaritan's Donkey (Bible Animal Board Books)1 review
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2005

Learning to help others
This charming little board book retells Christ's parable of the Good Samaritan from Luke 15:11-31 from the perspective of the Samaritan's donkey, who was also along for the ride! The book places an emphasis on the emotions of the donkey, which mirror the types of feelings young children go through on a daily basis: grumpy, hot, tired and perhaps not in the mood to help out! Donkey and his ...

Bible Guide (Essential Bible Reference)1 review
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2000

A Great Place to Start
This study was actually given to me in a beginner Bible Study for adults, those who have never really studied the Bible. Although it is written for 9-12 age it has some great basics about the Bible. It covers what the Bible is, how it came about, it breaks down the Old and New Testament into catagories, has a great maps, diagrams and charts and even a who's who in it. It is a great place to ...

Atlas de la Biblia y de la historia del cristianismo1 review

Casa Bautista de Publicaciones, 1998

Atlas de la Biblia de la historia del cristianismo by Tim Do
This is definitely one of the best atlases published. I have seen several and none compare. Also, there are not that many Spanish references available and this has to be by far the best. This book is outstanding in referencing the locations of the biblical cities to today's modern cities. I highly recommend this reference especially as a study tool.

Lion Misses Breakfast: Daniel and the Lions4 reviews
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2004

Daniel and the Lions
This is such a cute book with such a powerful message for little ones. The pictures are adorable -- the lion looks soooo sad. Kids will learn about the power of prayer from this book. The soldiers threw Daniel into the Lions' pit and Daniel prayed. An angel closed all the lions' mouths. So, no breakfast for Lion!

The History of Christianity (A Lion Handbook)4 reviews

Chariot Victor Pub, 1990

The most user-friendly Christian history book
There are numerous boring Christian history books on the marketplace--enough to make anyone fall asleep at night. For some reason, my seminary professors always seemed to pick this kind of book for us to read in the church history classes. When I came across this 700-page book several years ago, I was more than happy to add it to my personal library on church history (a topic on which I own a ...

Bible Timeline (Essential Bible Reference)1 review
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2000

A useful general tool
This is not a scholarly reference, packed with cross-references and footnotes, but neither is it one for the kiddies. I find this a useful quick reference. The information is quite accessible--you don't have to be a rocket scientist (or theologian) to understand what is written or presented. I have used it both in local church and teaching at tertiary level.

My First Story of Easter1 review
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2007

My First Story of Easter
This colorful book tells the story of the last week in the life of Jesus. The pictures are bright and hopeful--even the crucifixion segment is handled without being dark and graphic. I like the inclusion of children and women in the scenes. The only thing that could make it better would be more ethnic diversity in the pictures.

Introduction to the History of Christianity7 reviews
Tim Dowley

Augsburg Fortress Publishers, 1994

A great place to start
This is a beautifully illustrated overview of 2000 years of Christian history. Great graphics, good biographies and short, readable articles all make for an excellent start to Christian history. If you are looking for a place to begin, or just a single volume that gives you breadth without drowning you in the details, this volume is for you.

Eerdmans' Handbook to the History of Christianity2 reviews

Eerdmans Pub Co, 1977

Nothing short of excellent!
Like so many books in the Eerdmans' library, this history of Christianity is nothing short of excellent! The book is actually a collection of articles on various subjects from Christian history (people, places and events!), each written by an author who is knowledgeable in the field - thus avoiding the trap of having a chapter written by someone who really does not fully understand the subject ...

Kregel Pictorial Guide to Bible History (Kregel Pictorial Guides)3 reviews
Tim Dowley, David Payne

Kregel Publications, 2002

This was an educational and worthwhile project for our Bible history class!
The Temple model itself is fun to put together (be sure to use clips to hold the pieces in place as they dry). I'm especially grateful for the accompanying booklet which tells the history of Solomon's Temple and a clear description of each section of it, and gives brief histories of Zerubabel's and Herod's Temples. I wish the authors would come out with a Herod's Temple model! I'd love to ...

Glow in the Dark Advent Sticker Book3 reviews
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2000

Glow in the Dark Advent Sticker Book
THIS IS THE BEST ADVENT POSTER/Calendar that I have ever seen! I buy them for my Grandkids and for myself every year. There are a lot of stickers to put on the Poster after you read a short devotional for the day.

My First Story of Christmas2 reviews
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2006

My First Story of Christmas
My First Story of Christmas is a sweet, easy to understand, and Biblically correct book. The illustrations are positive and child-friendly, and work well with the text. The pace of the book is also good for kids who can sometimes be unattentive with long stories.

Changing Picture Bible Stories2 reviews
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2004

Perfect for toddler
This interactive book of Stories about Jesus really gets our toddler grandson's attention...he is fascinated with how the pictures change. Book is pretty sturdy but I would read with your toddler so book will last.

Elephant Keeps Safe: A Noah's Ark Story1 review
Tim Dowley

Candle Books, 2004

Noah's Story told from Elephant's Perspective
In this fun board book, the story of Noah's ark is told from the perspective of Elephant, who hates rain but helps to build the Ark. Young readers will enjoy hearing this story from a different perspective. A reference at the end of the book directs readers to the Bible reference for the Genesis version of the story.
