Sudoku18 reviews

Hodder & Stoughton, 2005

Has Blank Grids In The Back
This has been my favorite Sudoku book. The puzzles are harder than the "Very Challenging" puzzles in the Will Shortz books. One of my favorite features of this book is the section of blank grids towards the end of the book. They're perfect for when you make a mistake in a puzzle and want to try again. The author says that several of the puzzles require "Trailing" (aka Trial and Error). ...

McGraw-Hill's Encyclopedia of Networking & Telecommunications26 reviews
Tom Sheldon

McGraw-Hill Companies, 2001

It's a keeper.
I work for an ISP in the Upstate NY area in 2nd level Internet support. I have found this book to be a very handy and comprehensive reference on Networking technologies. We are also an ILEC and I am impressed with how well this reference covers terms or acronyms that I am unfamiliar with when dealing with this side of the business. Great job Tom! Keep up the good work.

Windows 2000 Security Handbook7 reviews
Philip Cox, Tom Sheldon

Osborne/McGraw-Hill, 2000

Major Kudos for an Outstanding Resource
I've read many books on Windows NT and Windows 2000 security. Most did not live up to my expectations. They were difficult to read and you needed a Computer Science/Engineering degree to understand them. In my opinion, this book is THE best book on Windows 2000 Security. Mr Cox and Mr Sheldon wrote a very easy to read, easy to understand, and most importantly, an easy to follow recipe for ...

The Big Sudoku Brain Workout: 150 Puzzles for a Younger Mind1 review
Tom Sheldon

Plume, 2006

"Use it or lose it."
Believing that the "occurrence of neurodegenerative disease is less marked in people who have busy and varied lifestyles"--i.e., those who keep their bodies AND their brains active--Tom Sheldon, author and expert in "bioinformatics" and artificial intelligence, has devised a book of one hundred fifty "puzzles for a younger mind." While people are not stopping me on the street to exclaim ...

Sudoku Master Class6 reviews
Tom Sheldon

Plume, 2006

I hope this is not the end of this terrific series!
My introduction to sudoku was Sheldon's Big Brain Workout, a book which guides the beginner from easy to more difficult puzzles. Sudoku Genius continues the series, with difficult puzzles representing the "nine circles of hell," from Daunting to Deadly. Sudoku Master Class introduces advanced strategies for solving the most difficult puzzles. For the first twenty-four puzzles, the answer key ...

Upgrading Your HP Pavilion PC: The Official HP Guide (HP Consumer Books)1 review
Tom Sheldon

Prentice Hall PTR, 2002

A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR HP OWNERS!!!
Excellent book, well written in easy to understand language. This book makes an excellent desktop reference for the computer technician. I like how Tom Sheldon divides the different areas of upgrading a computer into parts and chapters, each chapter begins with an overview and ends with a summary. Instead of wading through pages of material, you can go to the specific chapter that you need. Also I ...

Encyclopedia of Networking, Electronic Edition11 reviews
Tom Sheldon

Osborne Publishing, 1997

Great reference for Neworking Topics
I consider this one a "must have" reference book for Int. and Adv. Network professionals. It is very thorough at covering the latest technologies from all of the major vendors. It has detailed diagrams for most topics. I use it to keep up with all of the latest acronyms. When I initially got the book I sat down and read through the topics from front to back in order to broaden my networking ...

The Windows Nt Web Server Handbook2 reviews
Tom Sheldon

Mcgraw-Hill Osborne Media, 1996

Thorough coverage of the basics
The only caveat I have about this book is that it was written in 1996, and some of the info is dated (IIS 2 info, for instance) That being said, this is a terrific book, and puts together all the info you'll need, from TCP/IP basics to security issues and network topology. It got me up to speed really quickly. Now, let's see a new and revised edition!!

Lan Times Encyclopedia of Networking (LAN Times Series)2 reviews
Tom Sheldon

Mcgraw-Hill Osborne Media, 1994

Among the definitive essential networking reference books
An extraordinary amount of reference material packed into one book, all highly reliable. There is extensive coverage of protocols, architectures, commercial products, and even applications. Care is taken to prevent bias regarding any particular vendor or system, although the 1994 publication date makes the book fairly dated by 1997 when a new edition is scheduled. Many charts and diagrams. ...

Big Match Manager
Tom Sheldon

Bloomsbury UK, 2006

This interactive soccer game book allows young readers to play out matches using the simple and addictive game format, and at the same time using cunning to piece together clues to find out who is trying to ruin the club's chances of winning the European Cup. Two challenges lie ahead: it's down to the reader's match-playing skill to ensure Hardwick City are in with a chance to win the prestigious cup. And if that isn't a big enough job, four of ...

The Complete Reference to Netware 5 (Osborne's Complete Reference Series)1 review
William H. Payne, Tom Sheldon

McGraw-Hill Companies, 1999

Superficial, incomplete and many technical errors
A very disappointing book. This books seems to be a careless transcription of a similar Netware 4.x book. The book contains many technical errors (mainly things that relate to Netware 4 but are different in Netware 5) and is highly incomplete regarding new Netware 5 features (for example there is hardly any explanation on how to use SLP and directory agents in a pure-IP envirnment). A lot of ...

Netware 4.1: The Complete Reference1 review
Tom Sheldon

Mcgraw-Hill Osborne Media, 1995

Not exactly what I expected
I know nothing about networks. I bought a Novell 4.1 - the installation and maintainance guides that come with it are good for nothing - . Hoping it would do some good, I bought Mr. Sheldon's book. On the back, it says "all levels" - novice, intermediate, advanced - . However, that is not true. Mr. Sheldon leaves a lot of gaps behind. He starts talking about bindery services and complex terms ...

Windows NT Security Handbook6 reviews
Tom Sheldon

Osborne Publishing, 1996

Covers all the important topics
This book was a good read and very informative. I've been administrator for awhile but never paid much attention to security. This got me up to speed fast.

Microsoft Internet Information Server 4: the Complete Reference8 reviews
John Paul Mueller, Tom Sheldon

McGraw-Hill Companies, 1998

Truly a Complete Reference!
This book is one of my favorite references. I don't think that any book could contain everything you need to know about IIS, but this one comes close. I found that it provides great security coverage. The usage information is also easy to understand. About the only area that's completely lacking is performance tuning information. I'd also like to see how to create complex Web site setups (this ...
