My Bug Lover's Favorite
My 8-year-old grandson got this book from the library and thinks it is just wonderful. He brought it over and made a big point of showing me all of the pictures of spiders (his favorites, not mine). The book is clearly written and informative, has good descriptions and excellent drawings at much more than life size. For the childhood insect lover, this seems to be a fine educational ...

Solid...Wonderful Art
Ireland's history is excellent. It covers all of the major points, and gives good insight into topics that rarely make a basic history. His commentary on the major battles, tactics, and personalities is excellent. His background chapter on the Royal Navy provides important instruction on sailing and naval vocabulary. However, wonderful art and illustrations really make the book special. All too ...

Indispensable!
I read a number of reviews saying this was the book to have if you're interested in the ships of the Civil War - more than true. PROFUSELY illustrated with the major ships of the war (divided into classes), their histories and vital stats, the book also features illustrations of major naval battles of the war and a what looks to be a comprehensive listing of all ships of the war. As a wargamer of ...

Good overview of the dodo
This is a very well written, and beautifully illustrated overview of the dodo, its physical characteristics and behaviour. Aimed at a younger audience, this book is a wonderful introduction to the dodo. For more information, you might also want to try this web page on the life of the dodo : http://fan.net.au/~dodo/dodo/

A good overview of a most important aspect of World War II
This is a good introduction to naval combat as it was executed in World War II. The photography and diagrams provide interesting views of ships and tactics to those just learning about combat at sea as well as those who have been looking with interest at naval warfare for years. Although this is not an in-depth analysis or presentation of naval history, it does in my opinion delve into areas ...

Best Ship book of it's type
This is one of the best ship encyclopedia's out right now. It doesn't have as much information as the Jane's Ship books, but makes up for it by the shear number of ship types. It covers every era from Ancient Egypt to the Ships that are now in the Persian Gulf.

GREAT BOOK. SUPERB ARTWORK WITH MANY DOUBLE PAGE AND 3 VIEW (TOP, FRONT, AND PROFILE)ILLUSTRATIONS OF THESE GREAT VESSELS. I BOUGHT IT FOR THE ARTWORK ALONE BUT THE TEXT IS ALSO HIGHLY INFORMATIVE THOUGHT NOT AS "DEEP" AS SOME OTHER BOOKS.

A great book for little dinosaur lovers
I have read a lot of books about dinosaurs to my son...but this is one of the best I have run across. The information is presented very well. The book lists the dinosaurs according to the time period in which they evolved. It also has information on climate, diet, special characteristics of each dinosaur, and little scenarios depicting dinosaur life. My son especially liked the comparative ...

This book is about a dinosaur from the Cretaceous Period
Protoceratops is not large by dinosaur standards.At1.8m long only. However,it probably looked fierce. This is because there were predators like Tarbosaurus around.Tarbosaurus was as tall as a giraffe and was an asian version of T.rex. So Protoceratops looked fierce to scare Tarbosaurus off.
