General William E. DePuy: Preparing the Army for Modern War (American Warriors)3 reviews
Henry G. Gole

University Press of Kentucky, 2008

Outstanding guide for the days ahead
I expected a conventional treatment of the life and times of General DePuy, but only a few pages into this book, I knew I'd have a hard time putting it down. Absorbing and insightful, it describes the fascinating details where DePuy came from (South Dakota), how he grew up in the Army (90th Infantry Division from D-Day to VE Day), his advocates and adversaries, Vietnam service, and how he died (a ...

Official Soviet Mosin-Nagant Rifle Manual: Operating Instructions for the Model 1891/30 Rifle and Model 1938 ...4 reviews
U.S.S.R. Army

Paladin Press, 2000

Very informative book
This book is essential for anyone who owns a M44 type, Mosin Nagant rifle. It is easy to read and has some very detailed schematics. There is also some information that was supplied to Russian soldiers that show how to fight with the bayonet, etc. There is even a section showing how to shoot down enemy aircraft. Overall, it was well worth the money.

U.S. Army Special Forces Handbook1 review
U.S. Army

Pentagon Publishing, 2006

Excellent for military simulation.
I use a variety of field manuals as reference for airsoft military simulation. There are so many things in this book that can be applied to a squad. I also recommend getting FM-7-8, which is a culmination of numerous Army field manuals aimed at squad tactics and methods.

Ranger Handbook16 reviews
U.S. Army

Paladin Press, 1993

Small for a Reason
I went to Ranger School in 1973. After that the SF Q course. This book, so everyone knows, is small because it was not meant to be read in an armchair and sit in a library. It is the book that fits as the sole field reference book for a Ranger or Infantryman in general, in his BDU pocket. It is pocket sized for that reason only. Real Rangers and Infantrmen who would carry it to the field would ...

U.S. Army Special Operations Target Interdiction Course: Sniper Training And Employment6 reviews
U.S. Army

Paladin Press, 1999

Paladin Press version
This is THE best book on the subject with the USMC S/S manual only half a step behind. SOTIC contains a more thorough review of mechanics, ballistics calculation and trajectory theory. As for the gentleman who wrote a review on 26 April 2000"The real deal folks", I agree with his thoughts on the book. However, Mr. A Reader, I would appreciate you telling me and the world what "sniper" team you ...

The Manual of the Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, Model of 19111 review
U.S. Army

Paladin Press, 2007

Reprint of M1911 .45 Pistol Booklet Issued in 1918
This 32-pp. booklet is a reprint of one issued by the HQ of U.S. ground forces in France in 1918, toward the end of WW I. The booklet served to familiarize with the .45 pistol, those U.S. soldiers who never fired it, or perhaps fired it only a few times in training. This booklet is historically interesting, but completely modern in its wisdom about carrying, maintaining, practicing and shooting ...

Raising the Bar: Creating and Nurturing Adaptability to Deal with the Changing Face of War8 reviews
Maj. Donald Vandergriff (U.S. Army; Ret.)

Center for Defense Information Press, 2006

A Prerequisite for Winning Any More Wars
Don Vandergriff is arguably the best major to be not promoted by the U.S. Army. Among other things, he was their ROTC Instructor of the Year in 2003. While his passover may not bother most Americans, it should. For when careerism becomes so rampant in a military organization that exceptionally talented professionals are rifted for being proactive, that organization may also have trouble ...
