Peterson First Guides: Wildflowers
This publication personally helped me become more familiar with the wildflowers. It includes specs and descriptions of 188 wildflowers. To start off the illustrations in this field guide are very realistic. The addition of color helps the reader to identify the flowers and plants as they are in the wild. I personally found it difficult when using other field guides to identify the differences ...

Alot of fun!
My girls and I love this book! What a pleasure to be able to look out our window and now be able to identify the types of birds that live among us. We even now can recognize a bird by sound. This book includes wonderful pictures with easy to read descriptions of the birds and their habits. What a great way to spend time with each other having fun exploring and learning. A book that can be ...

Peterson Field Guides: Eastern Bird, Large Format Edition
This easy on the eyes large format edition is a great book for all ages and levels of bird watching. The soft cover makes it light to handle or take with you in the field. The large format makes identifying birds much easier and quicker. Well layed out and practical.

Handy convenient book
I bought this book as a gift for my elderly parents who like to use a guide for identifying birds at their backyard feeder. It has large, colorful pictures that are nice for that purpose. This book was recommended by a local newspaper writer who writes a "bird" column weekly. I am happy with my purchase and so are my parents.

Young Naturalist Guide to Butterflies1 review

Houghton Mifflin, 2000

A superb guide to the world of butterflies
"Butterflies," a field guide co-authored by Jonathan P. Latimer and Karen Stray Nolting, is a beautiful and informative guide to this fascinating family of insects. A well-written introduction gives basic information about butterfly anatomy, the butterfly life cycle, and other relevant matters. But the main body of the book consists of individual profiles of many major species of butterfly. Each ...

A Field Guide to the Birds of Eastern and Central North America55 reviews

Houghton Mifflin, 2002

extremely helpful for the new birder
I have been watching the birds play around in my back yard all my life, but I am brand new at identifying them. It is much more challenging than I expected; I had no idea how many species there are or how complex their markings and other identifiers are. I've always considered myself to be a fairly quick learner, but bird watching nearly stumped me ... until I found this field guide. Those little ...

A Field Guide to Western Birds: A Completely New Guide to Field Marks of All Species Found in North America ...25 reviews

Houghton Mifflin, 1990

The best just got better!
This has always been the reliable and preferred reference for my wife and I. We have worn out two of the paperback version over many years of use. Now, with the revised arrangement of the book it is even easier to use and may cause it to wear out prematurely due to overuse. I might have to buy another so we can both refer to our own copy at the same time.
