Michael Robartes and the Dancer

1920. A few of these poems may be difficult to understand, perhaps more difficult than Yeats knew. After the first few poems, Yeats came into possession of Michael Robartes' exposition of the 'Speculum Angelorum et Hominum' of Geraldus, and in the excitement of arranging and editing could no more keep out philosophy than could Goethe himself at certain periods of his life. Yeats has tried to make understanding easy by a couple of notes.

Faerie Folklore of a Shadowy Ireland of Celtic Mysteries !
In Celtic Twilight, originally published in 1902, Yeats recites several accounts of encounters with the faerie folk and with the people of Ireland of the time which gives us insight into Irish folklore, myth and legend. Yeats associates poetry with religious ideas and sentiment. And, I believe that he saw himself as writing for Ireland, but a shadowy Ireland of Celtic mysteries and legends, ...

But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you/ And loved the sorrows of your changing face
This is a relatively early collection of Yeats poetry. Its center is in his longing and love for Maud Gonne, and his love for the mythology, the landscape, the legend of Ireland. It contains a few of the most well- known and beloved of Yeats' poems. One of these is 'The Lake Isle of Innisfree'( The Heather Island). This poem is about Yeats longing for the simple life in nature. Another of the ...

This is THE actual Book of Irish Mythology
Gods and Fighting Men is an excellent resource because it preserves the lore from the Book of Invasions as well as other sources -- the legends of the earliest inhabitants of Ireland, the coming of the Tuatha De Danaan (The People of Dana) and the stories of Finn MacCumhail. What is portrayed as "Early Irish Mythology" 99% of the time actually isn't -- the dozens of translations of The Tain, ...
The Tower (1928): Manuscript Materials (Cornell Yeats)

Cornell University Press
, 2007
W. B. Yeats's The Tower, first published in 1928 and later revised a number of times, arrived in its final form after many years of dedicated labor. Yeats here is concerned with the "rooting of mythology in the earth," binding almost every poem to the image of Thoor Ballylee, the building in the west of Ireland that he saw as a permanent symbol of his work. Still considered one of the seminal volumes of modern poetry, its themes are ...

A fascinating look at the tradition of folklore in Ireland.
In this delightful volume, first published in 1892, William Butler Yeats has collected all manner of Irish folklore (mostly short stories, with a few poems) from a wide variety sources. He has divided the works into categories as follows: the "Trooping Fairies" (fairies, changelings, and the "merrow" or mermaids); the "Solitary Fairies" (the lepracaun, the pooka - an animal spirit, and the ...

Great poet, great work, amazing compilation!
A great compilation of Yeats works, while other compilations have excellent notes and essays regarding his works this one has many of his poems (and series of poems) all in one book. An outstanding book to own, beautifully compiled in this soft cover book (which has surprisingly held up quite well against years of battering as I carry it with me from time to time).

Irish lore and legends
In this volume you get The Celtic Twilight (1893), 34 Irish stories about the supernatural, where little people, faeries, ghosts (some of them headless) abound; most of them have been collected from the people who remember this old lore, but a few of them, like A Voice, and The Old Town, are from Yeats' own experience. The second part is The Secret Rose (1897), 9 legends that are perhaps my ...

At least it's available
If you just want to read the poems, this book will work. If you are looking for a nice book that you can enjoy holding or the feel of the pages you can savor as you read, skip it. The book is incredibly generic and poorly typeset, but available. You have to give it that.

You get what you pay for? Too bad.
This Kindle book is useless. There is no way to find any particular poem. You must scroll through thousands of locations. A linked index would have been so very helpful. Don't get it even if Amazon gives it away.
