Its 2am...
i just stayed up way past my bedtime on a school night to finish this book (i'm 31 by the way). it is a long book, but that's good because i didn't really want it to end anyway. this book makes you feel. it seemed like i was really in the middle of these people's lives, great storytelling. this is a 900-page page-turner. almost every page is dog eared bc i would sneak a read anytime i could, ...

Moving and thought-provoking
Excellent anthology of writing by women in prison who took part in Wally Lamb's writingn classes. Several of the most touching pieces are by young women serving long sentences for crimes committed at very young ages. Great reading for anyone interested in social justice issues.

Oprah got one right. Finally!
I commend Oprah for finally getting something on the list that is worth reading. Steinbeck, Faulkner, and Marquez are clearly worth reading, but that's rather obvious and she doesn't get points for that. (She still owes me for Vinegar Hill.) It's a long book. Unless you have a severe case of attention deficit disorder, you should be able to get through 900 pages. If you can watch four hours ...

Depressingly satisfying
I was recommended this book while in a Barnes and Noble. I could hug the woman whom advised me to buy it. It was terrificly written and completely drew me in. It was highly depressing with all the events Dolores Price had been through, but still I'd recommend this novel to anyone - not just females.

Funny, sad, inspiring, depressing
I was skeptical about ths book because Oprah recommended it, and I'm not a real fan of her choices. She had recommended another Lamb book that I did think was excellent, and that's why I chose to read this one. There's enough information out there that will tell you what this book is about so I won't go into that, but I will say that the parts of this story that just made me laugh was how ...

We all live in Glass Houses
I was completely captivated by this book. As you read, you feel so many emotions and become absorbed by each inmate's story and experiences. Most of all, I loved the books humanistic perspective. The stories allow you to see these women for more than just crimes they committed. They are woman, mothers, and sisters who were shaped by abusive childhoods/relationships, drug/alcohol addiction, ...
