Disappointed
I ordered this book (which was advertised as being signed by the author) as a gift for a friends birthday which was one month following the date of my order. The book took over 2 weeks to arrive and it was NOT SIGNED. Am frustrated and left without enough time to get the gift I intended to give.

Insightful and wonderfully written: a page-turner
Walter Isaacson writes history so that it reads like an excellent, exciting novel. This biography is a page-turner. Moreover, the author writes with subtle humor and great insight. Isaacson's research is accurate and extensive, which makes it even more amazing that the book does not have the format of a history textbook. This biography of Albert Einstein is filled with stories of a ...

Extraordinary Biography
This book has sat on my shelf unread for years - I think because I'm somewhat leery of "contemporary" biographies. Just another error in judgment on my part - this is an excellent book. (A back cover review describes it as "riveting" and that's not far off - I found it difficult to put this book down.) It's all here - the chronology - Kissinger's immediate family's escape from Nazi tyranny, ...

Excellent book.
This is a fine selection from Franklin's writings, including the entire 'Autobiography'. All texts have been judiciously chosen by the editor, arranged in chronological order and prefaced by intelligent, concise and well written introductory notes. Franklin's importance and permanence clearly emerge from the reading. I only wish there were more excerpts from Franklin's delightful 'Poor ...

Optimize versus Maximize - - - The Interdependence Imperative
The authors make a convincing case for how the prevailing paradigm in business, government, and the non-profit sector of "Winner Take All Competition" is being exposed as a dead end. The "MAXIMIZE returns for OUR constituents paradigm" just doesn't work when the job is to address large complex and interconnected challenges like - Sustainable Energy - Global Terrorism - Fair Trade Coffee. When ...

A contemporary as well as classical guide to happiness....
Perhaps you're now asking the same question I once did: "Given the fact that he lived almost 2,400 years ago, what could Aristotle possibly have to say that is directly relevant to me?" In fact, a great deal. So many of us today -- especially those at mid-life -- are engaged in a search to find meaning and happiness. We often ask, as Peggy Lee once did, "Is that all there is?" The purpose of this ...
