Transmetropolitan Vol. 4: The New Scum6 reviews
Warren Ellis, Darick Robertson

Vertigo, 2000

Absolutely Brilliant.....
Transmet has established itself as the greatest comic of all time by blending sci-fi, black humor, generally excellent storytelling, political commentary, and fabulous artwork. This is just another chapter in the fabulous sweeping saga that is Transmetropolitan. It really is a shame that not enough people are reading this stuff and dismiss it simply as another brain damaged comic book. Look ...

Transmetropolitan Vol. 1: Back on the Street47 reviews
Warren Ellis, Darick Robertson

Vertigo, 1998

More of an introduction to Spider's world than a full-fledged story
The first volume in Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson's TRANSMETROPOLITAN is more of a set up for what is to come than a self-contained graphic novel. There is a very brief story, but mainly it focuses on introducing us to the character Spider Jerusalem. We've met Spider before. He is pretty clearly patterned on Hunter S. Thompson, albeit one on steroids. There is even some physical ...

Transmetropolitan Vol. 2: Lust for Life26 reviews
Warren Ellis, Darick Robertson

Vertigo, 1999

Warren Ellis is for real!
This book was as good as the first one I bought. He is a prophet of our American Civilization. Someday; we will be like the society in his books. The best adult comic book writers come from United Kingdom. Since The UK is our best international friend; They earned the right to be our best critics. Again; As usual Amazon delivered.

Iron Man Vol. 1: Extremis25 reviews
Warren Ellis

Marvel Comics, 2007

A marvelous restart for Iron Man
This is an absolutely first-rate restart of a series, with a wonderful updating of a Marvel staple character. If there has been one consistent with Tony Stark in all his incarnations, it has been his extremism. This led to many of his personal problems, in particular his alcoholism, but it also has led to the intense devotion to his vocation of trying to bring the world into the future, which ...

Transmetropolitan Vol. 7: Spider's Thrash4 reviews
Warren Ellis, Darick Robertson

Vertigo, 2002

Spider Jerusalem is back....
Your friendly neighborhood outlaw journalist is back. Warren Ellis combined the humor of Palahniuk, the prose of Hunter S. Thompson, and the anarchic sensibilities of British punk rock into the greatest comic book character of all time: Spider Jerusalem. The comic is consistently funny, satirical, and eye-opening. Ellis uses the medium for his trademark brand of cynical social criticism...and ...

Transmetropolitan Vol. 10: One More Time3 reviews
Warren Ellis, Darick Robertson

Vertigo, 2004

Graphic SF Reader
Spider and his crew of filthy assistants are still dodging attempts on their lives, but Spider finally has an ace to play. He has evidence of a Kent State style massacre, and finally the media will display some backbone, especially after The Smiler has declared martial law. Spider gets to face down The Smiler just this one more time.

Transmetropolitan Vol. 6: Gouge Away4 reviews
Warren Ellis, Darick Robertson

Vertigo, 2002

A new sense of focus
This TPB is a little bit lighter than the extremely dark volumes that came before it -- Spider shakes off his depression and resumes the fight against the exploitative powers that be with new vigor. The absurd (rather than purely black) humor of the early volumes returns, particularly in the hilarious first issue of this volume, in which Spider's life is parodied in a variety of genres... Ellis' ...

Thunderbolts by Warren Ellis Vol. 1: Faith in Monsters7 reviews
Warren Ellis

Marvel Comics, 2008

Spectacular
In the aftermath of Civil War, a new team of Tunderbolts have been assembled to take down unregistered superheroes. No longer a team of former villains looking for redemption, these new Thunderbolts are operated by Norman "Green Goblin" Osborne, and consist of Songbird, Moonstone, Radioactive Man, Swordsman, Penance, Venom, and Bullseye. Kept on short leashes thanks to nanites in their blood, ...

Fell Vol. 1: Feral City17 reviews
Warren Ellis

Image Comics, 2007

the Stephen King of Comics
Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith have been around awhile. Warren is famous for his over the top horror and thriller type comics and Ben got famous for his incredible art with the original 30 Days of Night. And while this book has no vampires it has everything you would come to expect from these two masters. Warren delivers a great tale or I should say tales of Detective Fell and Ben creates ...

Transmetropolitan Vol. 3: Year of the Bastard9 reviews
Warren Ellis, Darick Robertson

Vertigo, 1999

American Politics Meets Its Match
Here in Volume Three, Spider Jerusalem finds his life once again driven further into madness by the demands of his Editor. Spider has been back into the city for a while, and except for a short but memorable run-in with The Beast, he's failed to address a seemingly unavoidable topic of the news (by choice of course): politics. It's an election year, and his hated enemy, The Beast, on whose ...

Transmetropolitan Vol. 8: Dirge2 reviews
Warren Ellis, Darick Robertson

Vertigo, 2003

Spider strikes again
The latest TPB of this fantastic series features a pretty big plot point for our bowel-disrupting hero, Spider Jerusalem. This is definately NOT the book for an unsuspecting reader who is new to transmet to purchase. You'll want to start from the beginning. That said, it's obvious from the stories in this volume that the series is coming to a final end. It has ended for all of you who bought the ...

StormWatch Vol. 4: A Finer World9 reviews
Warren Ellis

Wildstorm, 1999

Come for Midnighter and Apollo; Stay for The "Bleed"
After the legendary "Change or Die" volume, it begins to feel like Ellis has little idea where to go next. The intensity and sense of earth-shattering plot developments begins to fade noticeably at the beginning of this volume, but Ellis keeps the characterization high (especially for Jackson King), and introduces Midnighter and Apollo, two of Ellis' greatest inventions to date. Though their ...

Ultimate Galactus Vol. 1: Nightmare11 reviews
Warren Ellis, Trevor Hairsine

Marvel Comics, 2005

Favorite mini series
If you follow Ultimate Marvel, this series is a must have! I love this series. Ultimate Secret, the 2nd volume of this series is even more amazing.

Desolation Jones4 reviews
Warren Ellis

Wildstorm, 2006

A great book.
This book has an amazing feel for bitterly creative. A disturbingly fun ride. All that needs to be said is two words, "Hitler porn." Jones is one of those characters that you want to feel for but just you don't, you want to like him but you just don't. That sounds like a bad thing although it definitely adds to the tone and story of the book. I highly recommend this book.

Ultimate Galactus Vol. 3: Extinction8 reviews
Warren Ellis, Brandon Peterson

Marvel Comics, 2006

The end
The mixed reactions for the conclusion of Warren Ellis' Ultimate Galactus trilogy are well deserved for the most part. Ultimate Extinction finds Nick Fury, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, the Ultimates, the X-Men, Falcon, and Captain Mahr Vell awaiting the end as the Gah Lak Tus makes it's way to Earth. Ellis' real strong point in this concluding TPB is the dialogue between all the characters, ...
