THE SOUND OF THUNDER 9 reviews WILBUR SMITH
MANDARIN, 1992
Simply the best I read a lot and came across Wilbur Smith when my next door neighbor kept speaking of him. My ideas of African adventure were far removed from what Smith writes about. If you like DeMille, Flynn, Shaara, and the like you will love Smith. The back cover of his books says it the best. "Wilbur Smith is one of those benchmarks against whom others are compared." Just make sure you read these in ...

River God 241 reviews Wilbur Smith, 1993
Terrific story with lots of cultural info as well This is one of my all-time favorite stories! The characters are so well written & the story is outstanding. The slave, Taita, who tells the story is an engaging character, and his devotion to Lostris, the daughter of his master, is heartwarming. The adventures these two have over their lifetimes are so much fun to read. There is also a lot of information about ancient Egyptian mythology, ...

Men Of Men 11 reviews Wilbur Smith
Mandarin, 1991
A Sad but Extremely Well Written Story The place is southern Africa and the time is the late 1800s. Diamonds have been found and the scramble is on to become rich. Among those headed to the diamond fields is the adventurer, Zouga Ballantyne. He is a capable man and knows Africa. He was born there and has made and lost fortunes there. He heads to the diamond fields with hope, not of becoming a diamond magnate, but of financing his real ...

A Sparrow Falls 11 reviews Wilbur Smith
Not Avail, 2001
Tumultuous adventure in Africa A Sparrow Falls is the third of Wilbur Smith's books I've read in the Courtney family series. Each has its own flavor; each one is delightful and hard to put down, but A Sparrow Falls was a real demonstration of a powerful writer taking his readers on a turbulent, tumbling ride on a river of adventure and emotion! Smith's protagonists draw you in with their magnetic personalities and ...

The Quest (The Egyptian Novels) 86 reviews Wilbur Smith
macnillan, 2007
Great Storyteller Wilbur Smith has done it again with a great story of Egyptian adventure. I've enjoyed the whole series and although the Quest starts out a little slow it builds to a page turner. Wilbur Smith has a great writing style for fans of adventure novels and I have yet to be disappointed by any of his books. I recommend this book and all other Wilbur Smith books that were in this Egyptian set.

When the Lion Feeds 23 reviews Wilbur Smith
Dell, 1981
The First Novel This was the first novel that captured the hearts of many, thought provoking and deep in both mystery and action, Wilbur offers provoking thoughts and a view to the past, once again not all of his writings are fictional in whole; there is a breath of reality invoked in each passage and chapter. It's a fictional work, with a tender side to fact.
I now have all his works, most I have read in the ...

The Angels Weep 8 reviews Wilbur Smith
Book Club Associates, 1982
Not for the faint of heart I think this book is one of Wilbur Smith's best books. It tells the history of the struggle between the blacks and whites in present-day Zimbabwe. This book probably has more violence and bloodshed than any book I've ever read. However, it tells an important story and has some powerful messages.

A spellbinding action/adventure, tale I have seen Wilbur Smith novels on the bookshelves for years but for one reason or another none of them had ever really piqued my interest, but while browsing in an airport bookstore looking for something to read on a long flight I picked this one up and as I began to read I found that my flight was too short. I didn't want to be interrupted for something as trivial as changing flights. I intend ...

RAGE 6 reviews WILBUR SMITH
PAN BOOKS, 1988
Rage Wilbur Smith never fails to capture me with his writings. Rage is a wonderful depiction of a whole different world in South Africa. While he changes a few details it is still a very good indication of a life that many Americans do not understand. While entertaining us with his magnificent choice of words he is also educating us on a life style or self-being of the South African person. I ...

The Seventh Scroll (A Novel of Ancient Egypt) 83 reviews Wilbur Smith
St. Martin's Paperbacks, 2008
A Rip-snorten African Adventure Your "helpful" votes are appreciated. I seem to have angered a Mormon over my negative reviews of books attempting to proof the Book of Mormon is an ancient document and not Joseph Smith's religious novel.
This person gives me a negative vote almost as soon as my reviews are posted. Oh, well. To be so threatened by the facts.
The plot of the "Seventh Scroll" grabbed me and wouldn't let go. ...

Sunbird 37 reviews Wilbur Smith
Signet, 1974
Innovative twin tales of adventure and black betrayal. Let's first describe the book without passion or judgment. There are two tales, cutely parallel. The first tale is set in the 1960's or 70's. It concerns a South African multilingual super-talented white hunchbacked Anthropologist. This hero, together with his rich (white) friend and patron, explores an archaeological site. The third important character is a black guy, who is talented but ...

The Burning Shore 3 reviews Wilbur Smith
St. Martin's Paperbacks, 2007
Very memorable book I read this book several years ago, yet it stands out vividly in my mind. I feel that I will always remember the outline of this compelling and adventuresome story unlike the vast majority of routine novels that I have read.
If you like the sound of an African adventure novel with a young shipwrecked woman struggling to survive, I highly recommend it!

Monsoon 94 reviews Wilbur Smith
Macmillan Press, 1999
Wilbur Smith does it again Monsoon is the typically gripping Wilbur Smith epic. No matter what the subject, Smith enthralls his readers and refuses to release them, even after the novel has ended. This story, that of Hal Courtney and his four sons is an incredible story of courage, adventure and integrity. I can highly recommend this book to anyone who likes exploration, adventure, action, and the unexpected. Smith ...
