All the classics and then some!
This is a fantastic collection - a must have for any home library. I just wish it was hardbound! I really think that's all that needs to be said.

Grimm's Fairy Tales (Barnes & Noble Classics)1 review
Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm

Barnes & Noble Classics, 2003

Once upon a time...
Unlike Hans Christian Anderson, the Brothers Grimm did not invent new fairy tales but collected old ones, with the intention of preserving the oral tradition of the German peasantry. Whether in fact they fulfilled that intention has been questioned. Their tales do afford a glimpse of a world of castles and forests, nobles and peasants, superstitious beliefs and primitive practices that suggest ...

Little Red Riding Hood15 reviews
Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm

Holiday House, 1987

This is the true story!
It is so difficult to find these tales told with the original plot, and not made so happy and safe that the point gets lost. And there are important lessons from these tales. Does EVERY story have to end up with everyone living happily ever after? What is that teaching? My three year old loves the danger, gets the message and is not unduly frightened. The illustrations are charming and rich ...

Grimms' Tales for Young and Old: The Complete Stories8 reviews
Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm, Jacob W. Grimm, ...

Anchor, 1983

Best Translation of Grimm
I've always loved fairy tales, and I've never found a better version of Grimm's Tales. Why? The translation! Other versions tend to gloss over the details, taking away from the richness (and occasionally, gruesomeness) of the original. Manheim stays true to the spirit of the work in his translation, and the character of the original really shines through. The best example I can give is one of the ...

The Frog Prince (We Both Read)2 reviews
Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm

Treasure Bay, 2001

a simple idea, with a touch of genius in it
This series of readers really works. I've been running through them at bedtime with my six-year-old, who adores taking it in turns with me to read her page after I've read mine. It turns reading into a collaborative game, with plenty of play-acting (doing the different voices of the characters) thrown in. At my daughter's stage of reading, a short book can be a long haul, when she has to do it ...

Grimm's Grimmest21 reviews
Jacob Grimm, Maria Tatar

Chronicle Books, 2005

The Grimm's Grimmest, Indeed!
If you're looking for a Disney version of your favorite fairy tales, you're not going to find it here. The Grimm's Grimmest is a fantastic compilation of some of the Brothers Grimm's darkest tales, as they were originally meant to be read. These tales illustrate a world where humans are suitable for consumption, sexuality knows no bounds, and two brothers let their imaginations run rampant. The ...

The Complete Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales, Deluxe Edition (Literary Classics (Gramercy Books))31 reviews
Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm

Gramercy, 2006

WOW!!!! Beautiful!! (...and then some!)
This book is not only asthetically pleasing, with its richly colored and textured cover and gilt pages; but each and every story reflects the wonder and imagination that draws us all to fairy tales.... Inside the Grimm's are at their finest, and pulling no punches. This may be where Disney found Cinderella, Snow White and so on - but they are NOT the watered down versions we have seen in ...

Selected Folktales/Ausgewahlte Marchen: A Dual-Language Book3 reviews
Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm

Dover Publications, 2003

Excellent Learning Tool
I am a German student of three years, and I got this book in hopes to improve my German skills. I think that this is absolutely the best book a German student can get. -A German-English Dictionary is not necessary to read this book -Most stories are well-known, so even a student that doesn't have strong skills in either language can generally understand the stories -On the left page is the ...

The Annotated Brothers Grimm8 reviews
Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm

W. W. Norton & Company, 2004

The Annotated Brothers Grimm
A beautifully bound volume of the Grimm collection. With its side notes and explanations of what is going on in each tale, what better way to teach children the origin of these stories and gain a greater appreciation of its creation. This book is just that book to have on your library shelf. I am delighted to have it. (And I am well over 13 years of age.)

The Original Snow White Restored
Quick someone, grab some rope. Disney is down and we need to protect ourselves while we can. ;) It is so wonderful to see this beautiful tale restored to its original depth and content. The translation is marvelous, from showing the queen being overpowered by jealousy, to the interest and friendliness of the woodland creatures. And the illustrations!! No strange little cartoon creatures here, ...

Hansel & Gretel (We Both Read)1 review
Sindy McKay, Jacob Grimm, ...

Treasure Bay, 1999

My Kids Love It!
This was our first "We Both Can Read" book and it is still my children's favorite. These books are wonderful to ease your child into reading for you if they are a little unsure of their skills. It gives them great confidence sharing the "work" with you and waiting for their turn to read. The pictures are wonderful so my younger child has just as much fun getting into the story.

Snow White6 reviews
Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm

Random House Books for Young Readers, 2004

Gorgeously illustrated
This book has marvelous illustrations of the fairy tale story as originally told by the Grimm brothers. This book can be great for young children as the pictures are so vivid and life-like, especially of Snow White who is portrayed as a child rather than a teenager. Each picture is a springboard for conversation with little ones. I will be looking for all of Charles Santore's books after seeing ...

The Fisherman & His Wife (Fairy Tales)1 review

Creative Editions, 2001

Classic retelling of an old fable
The fisherman and his wife can take any number of retellings and some are better than others. The story is a great parable about greed and the misuse of power and appeals to many age groups. I would like a few more versions of it to add to my collection.

Grimm's Fairy Tales (Wordsworth Children's Classics) (Wordsworth Collection)9 reviews
Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm

Wordsworth Editions Ltd, 1998

Timeless
I was given this translation 20 years ago as a child, and it is still as timeless and entertaining today as it was then. I will pass the book on to my own children, with my blessing. The tales are well-translated and carefully walk the line without being too violent or explicit for young children, while still being enchanting for older children. Furthermore, all traces of racism have been purged ...
