Excellent, objective read.
This book is written from the vantage point of an objective, 3rd party eye. Very clinical, and hard facts. This book is MUCH better than the more recent popular book on the black elite. The author lays it on the line in a professional, objective manner.

"Concise" is Good!
This book's author refers to it as "concise." This is appropriate language. It is a wonderful introduction to American History, and is worth reading even if you're not a history newbie. The book address a good deal of the issues appropriately and in a concise, easy-to-read manner. Unlike many books on American History, this one doesn't pretend like slavery is the only thing that happened ...
The Arkansas Delta: Land of Paradox
University of Arkansas Press
, 1999
The historical, social, economic, geographic, and cultural issues the authors address make it abundantly clear that the Delta -- long thought to be a land of relative statis -- is actually changing quite rapidly. It is clear, too, that this strange land is filled with haunting contradictions.

Unique and Interesting Perspective
This book was very interesting. Offered new insight into the life of a slave and in a region not known for large slave population, Missouri. Quick read, too.
