A Realistic Approach to Making Positive Changes
Dr. Backus successfully achieves the promise implied in this book's title by telling you how to successfully implement behaviors that will enhance the quality of life. He couples the academic discipline of psychology with the teachings of the Bible into a package called "Christian cognitive therapy" which can help you to be liberated from unhealthy bahavioral patterns. In the beginning of the ...

A Biblical and Balanced Approach to the Topic
This book provides a biblical and balanced approach to an otherwise misunderstood and controversial topic: the healing power of the human mind. Dr. Backus is aware of the misunderstandings, especially among Christians, that cloud the issue so he renders due cautions and clarifications during his exposition. Although he believes that miracles and instant healings through prayer do happen today, ...

Great book
I would highly recommend this book if you suffer from mild or severe depression, anxiety, anger, or perfectionism, and are looking for help from a Christian perspective. I have never been diagnosed with any of these, but know I have some tendencies in a couple areas, as probably do most people. I admit I did not take 6 weeks to work through the book, but read pretty much straight through, ...

Eye opening and a quick read
After reading this book, I've since given away my copy and bought it twice. It's based on a simple concept: eliminate negative self talk by recognizing it, arguing with it, and replacing it with the truth. Anyone who has ever been discouraged, experienced doubt, or been angry at themselves will learn from this book.

Fabulous
I've read many self-help books, but this is the only one that specifically and clearly addressed how to identify Anger at God and what to do about it. I appreciated and learned from the examples from the author's own life-why he was angry with God and how he worked through it. After reading this book I am more reconciled to God. I wish I had read it years ago!

Biblical, practical, and wise
I have not yet read this entire book, but I did read a chapter excerpted in "Cornerstone Magazine" this month (November, 2000). I have also read several of Backus's other books, such as "The Hidden Rift With God," which was excellent. The chapter I read was on the sin of sloth. Backus address the psychological, spiritual, and moral dimensions of depression as it relates to the "deadly sin" of ...

Experience Freedom in Communicating With Others!
Backus' book is a refreshing read to communicate openly and lovingly with others and avoid manipulation. Among the many important points covered in the book include: 1. When we lose integrity, we become a fraction of the person God created us to be. 2. We fail to receive because we fail to ask. 3. Do's and dont's for criticizing others. 4. Characteristics of loving speech. 5. God does not ...

Best Help for Helpers
Reading this book changed the way I minister to troubled people - myself included. It is the best blend of the Truths of Scriptures and the discoveries of the discipline of Psychology I have ever read. Begining with "so you want to be a counselor," moving to how believing lies hurts all of us, and ending with solid information on the realities of mental illness and the need for medical as well ...

This book is excellent
I read this book as an undergraduate in college. The Lord was teaching me not to be hypocritical and to tell the truth. Which is very interesting because under the scrutiny of my self and even many others I would not be viewed as untruthful. This book was like a magnifying glass on my life. Little minute details were examined. This book I would say is therapy without paying the thousands of ...

Craftmanship of 90's
I was not a big fan of log homes until I saw this book. I enjoyed seeing the depth of detail through the house, very similar to the work of James Cutler. A very fine book to add to the architectural libray.

Review of Untwisting Twisted Relationships
Untwisting Twisted Relationships This is an incredible book. For those seeking to have healthy relationships, this book, by Dr. William Backus, should not be missed. It pointedly yet gently describes the subtle dangers that can enter into a relationship, and dissolve it. A must for Christians who want to keep their relationships with family and friends in a healthy balance, or for Christians ...

How True Faith Can Help You Deal With the Worries That Are Robbing You of Joy and Effectiveness. Anxieties come in many shapes and with varying degrees of intensity, but the fact is that everyone has them. We fear that we'll be hurt, made to suffer pain, loss, embarrassment, harassment, inconveniences, or other things we judge "not good." And these fears condition our response to life in countless ways, often limiting us and limiting what God ...
