The Letter to the Galatians and Ephesians (New Daily Study Bible)
Westminster John Knox Press, 2002
The Letter to the Galatians proclaims that Christiantiy was dependent upon nothing but God's free gift of grace, bestowed on all who would accept that gift by faith, Gentile and Jew alike. Because it declares this universality and confutes the Judaizing Christians, the letter is one of the great theological cornerstones of Christianity, according to Dr. Barclay.

The Revelation of John: Chapters 1 to 5 (New Daily Study Bible) 7 reviews William Barclay
Westminster John Knox Press, 2004
The Revelation of John Vol. II - do you have a copy? I was looking for Volume II and am using this "review" as a means to inquire. Volume I covers chapters 1-5. I assume Vol. II would cover chapters 6-18? I would like to purchase Vol. II.(As a small review: Mr. Barclay has taken on the most difficult book and made it much easier to understand.)

The Letter to the Romans (New Daily Study Bible) 8 reviews
Westminster John Knox Press, 2002
This series a must-have for serious Bible students Barclay's New Daily Study Guide series is a treasure. Every student of the Bible should own--and use--a set. Barclay adds life to Bible stories by explaining the customs of the first century. He helps our understanding of the text by explaining word selection: The various meanings, where else in the New Testament the word was used, etc. When new characters enter the Bible text, he describes them ...

The Parables of Jesus (The William Barclay Library) 6 reviews William Barclay
Westminster John Knox Press, 1999
A Light In The Darkness Each chapter is a magnetic sermon on each parable. Barclay's writing provides both scholarly insight and spiritual direction. There have been many books written on the parables, too many of which overanalyze the parables to the nth degree and which forget the basics. Barclay's is a more common-sense approach for the common man which keeps the lessons simple, straightforward, and illuminating. ...

The Gospel of John: The New Daily Study Bible (Volume 1) 9 reviews
Westminster John Knox Press, 2001
Barclay's Commentary on the Book of John I first studied the Book of John by Barclay in the 80's and thought it was outstanding. Coming back to his new volumes, I am even more impressed with the depth and genuine grace-filled commentary he delivers. If you have a Bible Study or Sunday School class that is hungry to understand what John was trying to convey about Jesus, this is the best book you could find.

The Gospel of Mark: The New Daily Study Bible 7 reviews
Westminster John Knox Press, 2001
I'm looking forward to reading the entire series Reading this commentary was like having a daily conversation with a deeply learned companion. Barclay's remarks are always insightful. Without being dogmatic, he brings Mark's prose alive. His understanding of the original Greek and of the customs and mores of the ancient world provides helpful context to the story. What a wonderful personal tutor! I now am reading his book on the ...

The Gospel of Matthew Volume I (The New Daily Study Bible) 6 reviews William Barclay
Westminster John Knox Press, 2001
Compelling scholarship with true love of Christ's message. I have tried to read the Gospels several times, and had always come away dissatisfied, feeling that I was missing the true meaning. This book (and part two) solved that problem for me. Barclay takes anywhere from one to several verses at a time and discusses them in the contexts of the time they were written, the prevailing religious thought, and their admittedly proseletizing purpose. He ...

The Gospel of Luke (Daily Study Bible Series (Westminster Press).) 5 reviews William Barclay
Westminster John Knox Press, 2001
How Can You Not Gain Insight from Barclay Though criticized by others in the scholarly guild for not producing enough "scholarly" papers/ books/ commentaries, Barclay is beloved by the average person in the pew because of the insightfulness of his prose. As a classicist he always offers just the right comment to help the reader understand, and appreciatively so, the text. There are other commentaries, more learned, more massive, ...

The Acts of the Apostles: The New Daily Study Bible 3 reviews
Westminster John Knox Press, 2003
Understanding, "The Acts of the Apostles". If you desire to understand how Christianity begun, this volume is a must. I am collecting William Barclay's books on the New Testament. I especially like the 1975-76 publication. Incidentally, Barclay gives background information on the the life and times of the these apostles.

The Letter to the Hebrews (New Daily Study Bible) 5 reviews

Hebrews by Barclay We use this as a reference material in our Bible Study. We have used Barclay's resources for years and are never disappointed. His research and insight give much additional value to the Bible. We would not study without it.

The Letters of John and Jude (New Daily Study Bible) 2 reviews Ronnie Barclay, Linda Foster
Westminster John Knox Press, 2003
One of a Great Series I own this whole set of 17 Barclay Daily Study Bibles and use them more than anything else in my rather extensive library. We also have a set in our church library and they are the books checked out more than any others. If you want a good, interesting, easy to read and understand resource on any of the books of the New Testament, I highly recommend any of this series.

The Gospel of John, Volume 1 (The Daily Study Bible Series, Revised Edition) 8 reviews
Westminster John Knox Press, 1975
Barclay was and remains the best commentator-ever Lke Caruso or Babe Ruth, Barclay is in a class by himself. As a commentator he had a combination of skills I have not found equalled by anyone else He was and remains the best in thefield. His writing style is accessible but eloquent Anglo-English (he was Scotch). His erudition peerless,(he knew more about Judiasm as a religion than almost all specialists I have read in that field) His ...

The Letters to Timothy, Titus, and Philemon: The New Daily Study Bible 4 reviews William Barclay
Westminster John Knox Press, 2003
Scholarly work presented in easy to read format I have found Barclay's Daily Bible Study Guides of the New Testament the best in-depth commentary of the bible books. He presents scholarly analysis in very easy to read passages. Reading this book in particular greatly increased my understanding of Paul's extraordinary letters to Timothy and Titus on Christian leadership principles.

The Letters to the Philippians, Colossians, and Thessalonians: The New Daily Study Bible 3 reviews William Barclay
Westminster John Knox Press, 2003
Highly recommended Dr. William Barclay (1907-78), an ordained minister in the Church of Scotland and Glasgow University Professor, is largely remembered today for his seventeen-volume Daily Study Bible. This book is part of the revised edition, which came out in 1975, and uses the Revised Standard Edition of the Bible, rather than the Authorized (King James) Version. In this book, each of the three sections begins ...

Letters to the Corinthians (New Daily Study Bible)

In The Letters to the Corinthians, noted Scottish Bible interpreter William Barclay follows the formula for The Daily Study Bible Series by first giving the text of the day's study in his own interpretation, followed by two or three pages of commentary.

The Letters of James and Peter: The New Daily Study Bible 3 reviews William Barclay
Westminster John Knox Press, 2003
Excellent historical review I have read many commentaries and Barclay and John MacArthur are the best in my opinion. Barclay is the easiest to read. He aims at the people to which it is written, the culture in which it is written and the language at the time. Barclay is the most quoted in terms of history. Very, very interesting reading.

New Testament words (WBL) 3 reviews William Barclay
Westminster John Knox Press, 2000
Basic Word Studies Most modern Christians, Catholic or not, are well versed in Latinate theological terms and notions. But how well do they know the Greek words and ideas of the Scriptures themselves? Despite that the Greek New Testament has been back in the West for several centuries now, its vocabulary still has not become a part of the mental furniture of the common Christian. Logos, agape, kyrie eleison.... ...

The Lord's Prayer (The William Barclay Library) 1 review William Barclay
Westminster John Knox Press, 1999
The Heart of Abba Father Barclay had a unique gift of the ability to paint verbal portraits of Christ. In this particular text, he slowly reveals a deep understanding of the simplicity as well as the profundity of the Lord's Prayer. So often said, yet so little understood, one can read and reread this text and find the newness and beauty again and again. Special attention should be paid to the chapter..."Thy Will Be ...
