Greater Expectations: Overcoming the Culture of Indulgence in Our Homes and Schools4 reviews
William Damon

Free Press, 1996

A painfully honest study of the deterioration of our youth.
Damon brings to light many controversial issues on the subject of child rearing and the deterioration of morals and values in today's young people. This book is a MUST for all parents, parents to be, or anyone else that cares about the future of society as a whole. Sadly, mediocracy has become acceptable, and is considered normal. As a result, our children are in trouble! Worse, what does ...

William Esper, Damon Dimarco

Anchor, 2008

the Actor's Art and Craft
As Mary Steenburgen said: "It's the best book on the craft of acting", - if your using the Meisner Technique by Bill Esper - you'll find that his teaching style is sensible, creative, and compassionate. It makes you want to run to New York and get this class in person. I can see why his students love him.

Sams, 2000

DLL and COM chapters are great
This book is fantastic. You do not need any other book for Builder 6. I was having problems with DLL and COM programming, but this book stepped me right through it. It is easy to understand and has very good examples. The CD includes a copy of the developer's guide for Builder 5 so it is great for people making the transition from 5 to 6.

Moral Child: Nurturing Children's Natural Moral Growth4 reviews
William Damon

Free Press, 1990

One of Damon's best books for parents, educators...
William Damon has written a number of excellent scientific articles and books on social and self-development of children. In this book, designed for a lay audience of parents and teachers, Damon outlines the moral development of children, all of which takes place in the social crucible of family, childhood and adolescent friends, and school. He is a long way from being a naive moralist, ...

Some Do Care2 reviews
Anne Colby, William Damon

Free Press, 1994

A classic in the field
Colby and Damon have authored a classic in the field of Moral development. They tell the stories of many "moral exemplars" and draw from those stories a theory of moral development in adulthood. Carol Gilligan was one of the first psychologists to present evidence that the development of the self was central to moral thought and action (though she borrowed the idea from Freud). Colby and ...

Good Work: When Excellence and Ethics Meet5 reviews
Howard Gardner, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, ...

Basic Books, 2002

The potential to change our attitudes about work forever
Howard Gardner has forever altered the landscape of American education through his development of the notion of "muliple intelligences," which says that people (including children and adolescents) can be "smart" in various ways. If reading, writing, and 'rithmatic aren't a person's strong spots, he may still be very bright in other areas. When Gardner first began studying and writing about ...

The YOUTH CHARTER4 reviews
William Damon

Free Press, 1997

We can come to consensus on what we expect of our children.
We all have our individual expectations of what our aspirations for our children are, but we seldom share these expectations with others. The result is a community that meets no ones expectations when it comes to providing a positive environment for raising their children. Mr. Damon's solution to this problem is expressed in the book's title. The Youth Charter is based upon the premise that ...

William Damon, Richard M. Lerner

A must read for counsellors and therapists - not only child & family therapists
The editors of this book present a most holistic view to understanding child and adolescent development - a view that would be impossible to achieve if viewed from one science/perspective alone. Bringing in a New Era in Character Education2 reviews

Hoover Institution Press, 2002

The best essays in support of character education...
I think this edited book is one of William Damon's best, because he brings together nine writers who each take a position on the prospects and future of character education in American schools and universities. The essays are very well written and integrated, and are accessible to upper high school and college-level readers. Damon's position is that character education has been neglected ...
