Replay 311 reviews Ken Grimwood
Tantor Media, 2008
A wonderful affirmation of the beauty of existence Because there are so many reviews of this book, nearly all of them wildly positive, I won't try to add a great deal more here except to state that this is one of the most life-affirming books that I have ever read. As the book's protagonist lives his life over and over and over again, he gradually comes to appreciate those things that most matter. Although this is loosely considered a genre ...

Whispers 115 reviews Dean Koontz
Brilliance Audio on CD Unabridged, 2007
great This is a great book in my opinion all around. It delves into the human mind and physce and what we do to protect our selves from harsh stimuli to our minds. I don't like to explain the whole story out in a review because it takes away from the actual reading of the plot and book overall. Just get this book its a good read

Harry S. Truman: The American Presidents Series: The 33rd President, 1945-1953 (The American Presidents) 1 review Robert Dallek
Macmillan Audio, 2008
Nice brief bio of Harry Truman Harry S. Truman's life story in a short, accessible biography. That's the premise of The American Presidents Series, and this is one of the most recent entrants in the stable. The late Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. was the series editor. In his introduction to each book in this series, he says (Page xvi): "The men in the White House express the ideals and values, the frailties and the flaws, of the ...

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Unabridged Classics in Audio) Mark Twain
Tantor Media, 2008
Mark Twain defined classic as "a book which people praise and don't read"; The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a happy exception to his own rule. Twain's mastery of dialect, coupled with his famous wit, has made Huckleberry Finn one of the most loved and distinctly American classics ever written.

Pearl Harbor: A Novel of December 8th 85 reviews Newt Gingrich, William R. Forstchen
Macmillan Audio, 2007
Gingrich is improving as an author I was hesitant to give a Newt "written" book another try after his first WWII book "1945". However, I was pleasantly surprised with this novel. It was a fast paced easy read. The size of the book and the easy text make it a good book to pick up and complete on the same airline flight.

The Thin Man (Mystery Masters) 49 reviews Dashiell Hammett
Mystery Masters, 2005
One of my very favorite books! Boy, these reviews are all over the place, aren't they! Well, they at least give you the plot so I don't have to. Here are some quick comments:
There is so much going on in this book that most people miss much of it the first time (as these reviews show), especially if they don't know Hammett's life. As noted, Hammett modeled Nick and Nora on himself and his paramour, budding playwright ...

Pendragon Book Seven: The Quillan Games (Pendragon) (Pendragon) 45 reviews D. J. MacHale
Brilliance Audio on CD Unabridged, 2006
Pendragon The Pendragon Series is exceptional. It is imaginative and fast moving. It is especially a great series for middle school students because it is about a boy of their age group. Not only that, but it is about a boy who struggles with problems, yet chooses to be a good person. He follows his conscience and opts to do what he knows and feels is right, not taking the easy way out. Pendragon is a ...

Days of Infamy 50 reviews Newt Gingrich, William R. Forstchen
Macmillan Audio, 2008
Pearl Harbour Days of Infamy was everything I expected it to be a thrilling and realistic account of what could have happened after the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was a book I could not put down and did not want it to finish, but if you are going to read this book I must recommend that you read Pearl Harbor first which was just as good if not better.

Black Water (Pendragon, Book 5) 42 reviews D. J. MacHale
Brilliance Audio on CD Unabridged, 2005
An adult view I have been a fan of fantasy and science fiction for all of my life. I stumbled upon this series and have enjoyed each of the books. As you progress with Bobby from book to book it hooks you into waiting for his next journal. The books are written for teens, but adults can enjoy them as well. The moderation is well done and consistent between each of the books so no different voices to piece ...

Pendragon Book Two: The Lost City of Faar (Pendragon) (Pendragon) 1 review D. J. MacHale

The Suspense Kills Me 0_0 I don't want to spoil this for anyone so you might want to move on if you haven't it read but I'm STILL upset about Uncle Press getting killed and I read this book two months ago! It's a very good book though, very entertaining. You can't read this far and just stop, it's just too good. I've read all the way to book six (Rivers of Zadaa). Soon as I can I'm getting the next two. I prefer Keys ...

The second book in an engaging trilogy This is the second book in what is scheduled as a trilogy. If you haven't yet read "Into the Storm: Destroyermen", pick that one up before reading "Crusade". The third book is due out in February 2009.
The premise is that two decrepit WWII destroyers that are fleeing the Japanese find themselves transported to an alernate Earth where the geopraphy is largely the same, but the dinosaurs never ...

The Caves of Steel (The Robot Series) 81 reviews Isaac Asimov
Tantor Media, 2007
The Laws of Robotics ... this is where it all started! A thousand years ago, mankind began the process of leaving mother Earth and colonizing the galaxy. Fifty planets have been now been colonized by thinly spread populations of hardy pioneering spirits - rough and ready types willing to work in hostile environments with robots as help-mates and partners - and it is obvious that mankind has evolved down two diverging sociological paths. The Earthmen ...

Pendragon Book One: The Merchant of Death (Pendragon) (Pendragon) 24 reviews D. J. MacHale
Brilliance Audio on CD Unabridged, 2005
Great Series First of all, to refute the reviewer who spoke of profanity. We do not use profanity in my family either and I can't think of any profanity that was in this series. Actually, there is one word used, and while we choose not to say "The name of the Lord in vain" in my family and get offended hearing others say it, I was grateful at least that was the only extent of the profanity. It was used by ...
