Beautiful
Dan Berrigan and william Mcnichols have combined thier gifts to bring about this gift . Fr. Mcnichols is a renowned writer of Icons, Fr Daniel Berrigan, poet, prophet priest{though that sounds too easy}. With this eclectic choice of icons{a Zen nun from ireland, a female physician mystic from Europe}, and the poetic text of Fr. Berrigan, this is an excellent meditative tool, lovely to look ...

Hotels and pink cities
A friend gave me this book last month, and I have been reading in it almost every day since. Emmanuel Moses is an extremely interesting and affecting poet. The poems are saturated with history, both personal and official, and there's a quiet, concentrated core of intelligence about this history underlying every poem, be it more conceptual, more experiential, funny, or sad, that I find thrilling. ...

Beautiful and Inspiring
This book is not for those looking for biographical information -- although Father John Dear does include some biographical details about the lives of those included. Rather, this book is for those who want to reflect on the examples of nonviolence that these individuals provided with their lives. Simply written, beautifully illustrated with icons, this book is very much a devotional work -- one ...

A wonderfully prayerful work
I was with Megan last summer when this book was in the final stages of production. I was impressed with the concept when she was explaining it to me and I was intrigued to see if it would live up to my expectations. It far surpassed them! The book is a wonderfully simple idea - but so very effective. It contains an introduction, which gives a very informative explanation about iconography. ...

Even as an adult, I still use the lesson taught in this book
As a little girl, I remember finding this among my older brother's books, and reading it over and over again. Sometimes, my mom would read it with me, and talk with me about it. Even though the book made me sad when I read it, I was nevertheless drawn to it. The book comforted me, helped me realize that it was okay to be hurt, and taught me to empathize with the pain of others'. I am all ...

Indian Freedom Into White Man's Utilitarianism
. I found this book being both an honest account and a more accurate description of the Indian-American experience, as it comes from a man who was both Indian and personally lived through the trials and hardships through the Sioux tribe. What is so interesting about the story is the naïve attribute of Luther Standing Bear and his honest, open and yet hold fast integrity. His trusting nature ...

Excellent overview of Military Reform
After serving as George McGovern's campaign manager in the 1972 presidential election, Hart entered the Colorado senate campaign in 1974. An upset victory set the young, dashing idealist on a course for national leadership. To the suprise of many this presumed dove, who had just spent the past several years of his life arguing against US intervention in Vietnam, turned his attention to war ...

New Lights on the Trial
I believe many people heard of the Nuremberg Trial, but I doubt many people know much of the details of the Trial. Nor the debate about the Trial ensued for decades after the Trial. Frankly I have to admit that I myself did not have any idea of it until recently when this book happened to cross me. I wish people read this book with an open-mind. And I wish this still be a country where free ...

Great Book !!!
This is a great book. I enjoy hours of reading it. All of my childhood memories of growing up in Little Rock come back. Being forced out of Arkansas to California to complete my education after Governor Faubus closed the schools, didn't dampen my view of the South. I plan to buy all of the new subjects that have just been published by these publishers.

An Insider's Take on THE ART OF LIVING & Why BEYOND THE BREATH is the Perfect Compliment
Except for the author, I bet I've read and reread The Art of Living more than anyone else alive. Here's why: Before learning the meditation technique taught by the Indian-Burmese meditation master S. N. Goenka, I'd practiced in other traditions for more than 15 years and completed many long meditation retreats. I only attended a Goenka course because the 10-day retreat was offered for free and ...

An Epic Tale Of Plunderland...
Well, perhaps 4.5 stars, few novels are perfect. In this novel the exploits of superhero Ernest Candide, and his belated education, are detailed. Here we have Madmahn Badassi, President Buzz Twofer II, former President Willey Beavers, Vice President Chain Dickey, religious advisor Parson Weed, and defense secretary Clayton Minefield, among many other clueless bozos ("clueless bozos" courtesy of ...

Can we change?
This book really made me think. I thought I never would agree with the authors' conclusions, but after looking at those people close to me (father, father-in-law, uncles, friends, etc.) who are no better off now than when they started working in Organizational America 30 years ago, I have to agree. Can we change before things get worse? Maybe with Hart's & Scott's recommendations and ...

4 1/2* Journals of Pain and Healing
This is a superb novel about Vietnam War veteran John Goddard and his ESL pupil, Vietnamese refugee Tien Le, as each confront past war traumas and current problems with the English Department's grading policies at a fictional California State University. Hart presents a dual-first person narrative in the protagonists' journals, and this is where his mastery shows. Unlike other first-person novels ...

Hamlet for English learners
I was reading this prose version of Hamlet when I took the evening off to go to a concert. Passing a theatre, I noticed Hamlet was on and went in. Having reminded myself of the plot with this book, I enjoyed the production more than I would otherwise have done, even though I like to think I know the play well. As a teacher of English for foreign learners, I recommend this route as an ...

I used this text in college and the teacher was the author, my father also learned his circuit theory from the author. Its focus is on practical transistor design fundamentals.
