Listening for Coyote: A Walk Across Oregon's Wilderness9 reviews
William L. Sullivan

Oregon State University Press, 2000

The author's spirit of adventure shines through
I just finished this book today and I must say, I hated coming to the end of the trail on this one (pun intented). From the opening to the close, this book takes you right into the author's daily trek. Through lunch, second lunch, dinner, through rain, sun, heat, cold, etc. I have to say though, the very best attribute of this book is the author's writing skill. He entertains while ...

100 Hikes / Travel Guide: Oregon Coast & Coast Range (100 Hikes)2 reviews
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Press, 2002

A great book for exploring the Oregon Coast
William Sullivan, the author of this guide book, is reputed to be a fifth generation Oregonian who grew to love the Oregon coast as a child spending time in the family cabin in Lincoln City. As a fourth-generation Oregonian and veteran of numerous day trips and camping trips as a child and adult to the Oregon coast, I have found the book to be a great guide and an eye-opener to places and trails ...

Cabin Fever: Notes from a Part-Time Pioneer5 reviews
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Press, 2004

Cabin Fever
As someone who has grown up romanticizing the log cabin life, I absolutely loved this modern cabin story. It's typical Bill Sullivan - funny, historically informative, easy to read, and entertaining. Anyone who is a fan of Bill's will enjoy learning more about his family. Anyone who is new to Bill's work will want to read more after reading this book.

This informative, entertaining book tells the stories of floods, fires, earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions that have affected people in Oregon. 100 Hikes in Southern Oregon3 reviews
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Press, 2003

NEW second edition coming out April 1, 2003
Hi, this is Bill Sullivan, the author of this book. Because of the large fires in Southern Oregon this past summer, I've decided to completely update this book. I've rehiked the trails and discovered some interesting new paths. The old edition is now out of print, but I'll have the new second edition available April 1, 2003 -- at the same price. I think it will be worth the wait!

Hiking Oregon's History : The Stories Behind Historic Places You Can Walk to See4 reviews
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Press, 1999

Wonderful!
After moving to Oregon a few months ago, I discovered this gem of a book. While most hiking books will have plenty of information about where to go and what to see, I've never seen one that's just plain fun to read before. The book is full of interesting and amusing stories that will keep you turning pages late into the night. And, even better, the places that are described--you can hike ...

One Hundred Hikes in the Central Oregon Cascades (100 Hikes)5 reviews
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Press, 2005

Fond memories exist because of this book
I bought all three books that Mr. Sullivan has written about the Cascades, but I never got a chance to try out all the trails. I just moved from Eugene, and just before I left, at the end of the summer, I got a chance to go to Bryce Creek outside Cottage Grove. What a hidden secret. The area was beautiful, lots of small waterfalls, not too far from the main road, and I even took my little ...

Trips & Trails Oregon2 reviews
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Press, 2003

must have
We had two weeks vacation in Oregon and wanted to see the best, wanted to hike and stay at beautiful places. This guide book is just really good organized, has lots of information and tons of nice hikes. We enjoyed every hike and think the maps were really good. We didn't need to buy additional maps. The hikes were beautiful and the places we got to see amazing. Would always recommend it if you ...

100 Hikes in Northwest Oregon & Southwest Washington, 3rd Edition (100 Hikes)7 reviews
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Press, 2006

Take along this 13-oz. book chock-full of information!
This updated NW Oregon hiking guide is an ideal daypack essential for visitors and residents alike. Bill is a peripatetic author whose slide shows I attend as often as I can, and this third edition was the subject of one of those. He's a friendly and most genial speaker/writer/ hiker whose words and pictures literally 'pop' from the page and propels the casual reader to 'take a hike'. The 2nd ...

Build your own carts & wagons: 15 plans & projects1 review
William L Sullivan

Tab Books Inc, 1983

May not be what you think....
The carts in this book are mostly conduit (tube steel) frame carts with bicycle tires, with plywood boxes and seats. They have garden carts, bicycle-drawn carts, a wheelchair cart, a tea cart, a dog/goat cart, and one 2-wheel pony or horse cart. The designs are simple and basic, and the step by step instructions appear to be easy to follow. These are basic, usable carts, not fancy or ...

100 Hikes/Travel Guide: Oregon Coast & Coast Range3 reviews
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Pr, 1996

Great travel book for Oregon Coast
I have used extensively this book for traveling at the south oregon coast. The directions to the trail heads are very clear, the maps are well done and the hike descriptions are first rate. Sullivan is a wonderful writer. His other hiking books are also very well done. I recommend any book that he has written. His hiking books are the best that I have ever seen.

100 Hikes/Travel Guide : Eastern Oregon (100 Hikes)1 review
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Press, 2001

Great hikes, great maps, great photos!
This book features an excellent range of hikes: from challenging longer hikes to short hikes suitable for families with kids, well known hikes and little known gems. The author has done a great job selecting hikes that explore the mountains and high desert of Easter Oregon, and his written descriptions are precise and descriptive. Sullivan's maps and photos add a lot to the book. A great book ...

Oregon Road Map & Travel Guide2 reviews
William L. Sullivan, Imus Geographics

Navillus Press, 1999

Great Oregon Map
This is the best Oregon map I've found and I've purchased several; one for each vehicle and one I keep in the house too. It's very detailed and one feature that's great is that tertiary roads are in yellow if they are paved, in white if they are dirt/gravel. This is a very useful feature to motorcyclists as we know if the road might abrubtly transition to gravel, and can plan accordingly. ...

Listening for Coyote1 review
William L. Sullivan

William Morrow & Co, 1988

a little long....
I thought this book would be a little different than it actually was. There are some good sections that kept the "what happened next" factor but more often than not, it is just the tale of some guy on a hike and there's really not a whole book's worth of information to tell about a guy alone on a hike. I read it all the way through thinking 'ok something's gonna happened' but it just never did. ...

Exploring Oregon's Wild Areas: A Guide for Hikers, Backpackers, Climbers, Cross-Country Skiers, Paddlers ...1 review
William L. Sullivan

Mountaineers Books, 2002

Too much in one volume
William Sullivan is a compendium of knowledge about Oregon. His later books: "100 Hikes in.... (Central Oregon, Eastern Oregon, Northwest Oregon)" contain great information about trails, easy to read maps, in short, they are a must for any serious hiker. I bought "Exploring Oregon's Wild Areas" with the same expectations and was disappointed. I should have read the complete title. This book ...

100 Hikes in Northwest Oregon (Second Edition)7 reviews
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Press, 2000

The Most Accurate Hiking Book Ever
I bought this book prior to a trip to Oregon in hopes of finding some beautiful hikes. This book was a valuable tool in my search. Every hike was accurately described from details on finding the trailhead to distances traveled including the level of difficulty and points of interest along the way.

The Case of Einstein's Violin1 review
William L. Sullivan

Navillus Press, 2007

Excellent!
I really enjoyed reading "The Case of Einstein's Violin." I am a long-time fan of Bill Sullivan's guides to hiking in Oregon and his other non-fiction works. His knowledge and smooth writing style are consistently exceptional. These qualities shine in this mystery novel, Sullivan's first work of fiction. Not only is the plot exciting and the characters well developed, but Einstein's Violin is ...
