I had friends visit the Kenai Peninsula for two weeks in July. We used this guide to find 130 bird species and all the major mammals - marine and land. It is cheap, well done, and full of information. My friends took it home as a remainder of why they love Alaska.

I checked this out from the library when I was about four years old and I loved the cassette that came with it. If you can find it with the cassette, it is very cool. The whale sounds are awesome and the man who narates it really does it well.

Factually incorrect
My whale-loving 7 year old daughter pointed out serious factual errors in this book. If anything, it's a terrific resource to show kids that just because something is in a book written by a PhD, it's not necessarily true. The book is well put together and has terrific resources in the back for further study. If not for the glaring errors of fact, I'd have given it more than two stars.
