Bulls Island 44 reviews Dorothea Benton Frank
William Morrow, 2008
Bulls Island I have read all of Dorothea Benton Frank's novels. I am a fan because she always accurately includes the history and local color of the Low Country. While this was not my favorite, I enjoyed reading it while vacationing on Isle of Palms.

Sullivan's Island (Lowcountry Tales) 166 reviews Dorothea Benton Frank
Berkley Trade, 2004
Hard to put down. What a pleasant surprise. I read Isle of Palms (2 1/2-3 stars)so I was not expecting to love this work by Ms. Frank so much. The flow of her voice is gripping. There were times I wanted to take a break but found I could not put this book down. The tales of the Hamilton family in 1963 and 1999-2000 were enthralling. I feel Ms. Frank handled the good and bad times of the 1960s very well; with ...

full of grace 57 reviews Dorothea Benton Frank
Avon A, 2008
Great Book This book was recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad I read it. I found myself actually laughing outloud at the main character and her family. It's about a single Italian woman who meets the love of her life who just happens to be Irish and a non believer. According to her family, who are strict Catholics, it couldn't get much worse! You will fall in love with her and her family and ...

Shem Creek: A Lowcountry Tale (Lowcountry Tales) 48 reviews Dorothea Benton Frank
Berkley, 2005
a brilliant story of friendship, love and making fresh starts! With her trademark casual and conversational style of writing, Dorothea Benton Frank has the magical knack of pulling the reader directly into the setting, making it feel as though the characters are friends and neighbors, and the low country of South Carolina is home. I have a particular fondness for stories that are centered around a restaurant, and the Italian flare added a special touch. As ...

Plantation by Frank I have now read all of Frank's books and I love them all. Her characters are so well described and the humidity makes you feel like you are on the beach with them. Her books are the kind to keep for re-reads.

The Christmas Pearl The Christmas Pearl
If you're GRITS (Girls Raised in the South), you'll really understand the premise of this book. But it's a great, feel-good read for anyone who enjoys nostalgia and appreciates the wisdom that comes with age.

Hiking the Benton Mackaye Trail: A Guide to the Benton MacKaye Trail from Georgia's Springer Mountain to ... 1 review Tim Homan
Peachtree Publishers, 2004
An Excellent Guide His most "frightening moment" on the trail is a great read and had me laughing out loud. All of his guidebooks are excellent, but I believe this is the best. It contains a nice history of the trail, a good biography of MacKaye, and excellent topographic maps.

Plantation: A Lowcountry Tale 63 reviews Dorothea Benton Frank
Jove, 2001
Love It!! I love this book. I think that it is well written and I think that it is written for today's southern woman. I do think it was a bit much on the yhahs. But I do think that it is entertaining and funny. I laughed, I cried, and I loved this book!

Isle of Palms 45 reviews Dorothea Benton Frank
Berkley Trade, 2005
A bit long.. for me but enjoyed none the less. Who can't help but love a book about a woman, mother, single who decides she needs a place of her own. Scary as it may be. One day something happens at the hair salon she works at, employed for a big meany, Harriet, and Harriet instead of thanking her, fires her. So now she has a mortage to pay for, and no job. Her quacky next door neighbor has a crazy idea. ...

The Frandidate (Franny K. Stein, Mad Scientist) 2 reviews
Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2008
Fantastic fun Like the other six books in the Franny K. Stein library, The Frandidate is another marvelous invention born from the mind of Jim Benton. We never grow tired of Franny's crazy antics and creations in my household, which is especially impressive when you consider that I have two sons, and well, Franny is a girl. I guess mad science is truly a topic enthralling to both genders. In this seventh ...

Berkley Trade, 2006
Captivatingly Honest Life Stories While Shem Creek is located on the east coast, it could be anywhere by the writing style and characters. Any small town could have a Linda and a Brad. They are heartwarming characters that bite into American History and leave you wanting more. While their lives are filled with the same daily crisis as all others, they survive. A story woven with tried and true details is told tongue in cheek, ...

Spooky Science (Franny K. Stein, Mad Scientist) 1 review
Simon Scribbles, 2007
Franny K a hit! I teach 4th and 5th grades and my students love the Franny K Stein books. They are a nice break from the required reading at their grade level. Most can read the books in a couple of days. I believe in any book that encourages students to read. My students actually fight over who gets to check them out. I only gave it four stars because I do believe that educationally there are better books ...

It's Happy Bunny: What's Your Sign? (It's Happy Bunny) 5 reviews Jim Benton
Scholastic Paperbacks, 2005
I COMPLETELY LOVE THIS BUNNY! My sister and stepdaughter hipped me to Happy Bunny and he is the most hillarious thing I have come across in a long time. These books are complete crack ups, not to mention the other Happy Bunny merchandise. This book actually gives a pretty accurate representation of my astrological sign (Aries). I would recommend this and the other Happy Bunny books to anyone who just needs to laugh at life.
