You've seen Karloff, now read the original
Once you read Shelley's classic you're going to scratch your head and wonder: Is this really the book that gave us the Karloff movie? Not to mention Herman Munster and Frankenberry. For over a century and half people have been cannibalizing this book for ideas, movies, other books, and products of every size, shape and type that our modern concept of Frankenstein holds little to no resemblence to ...

A Very Good Sci-Fi Read
I was very pleased to find this well written and well thought out book! It was, as several other reviewers pointed out, very reminiscent of Heinlein's writing style and plot lines but is good enough to put Scalzi firmly in my list of favorite authors. No spoilers or plot reviews from me on this book (others have already covered these in-depth), but I will say that the story flowed very ...

Louisiana Blues
From Dead to Worse (2008) is the eighth fantasy novel in the Southern Vampire series, following All Together Dead. In the previous volume, Sookie Stackhouse finally realized what was going on and organized an evacuation party from the human workers. Cecile set off the fire alarm and other humans started downstairs. Sookie managed to get Erik Northman up and the two of them got Pam into her ...

Maenads and Vampires and Fanatics, oh my!
Okay, not as good as the first book in the series, I admit. Still, a pretty good story. Plenty of action, and the romance was toned down a bit, so it didn't so much distract from the main storyline. I know, I know, plenty of people like those bits, but I like my supernatural stories to be just that, I suppose. Some tension, maybe (I do like the interaction between Sookie and Sam!) but not the ...

Forever an Anita Blake series fan
I have loved this series from the beginning despite the rough reviews given the last few books. I was very worried about continuing with the series after reading the negative comments but I read them anyway and feel the reviews are a bit too harsh. Yes, there are flaws: contrived plots, spelling/grammatical errors, etc. But I simply love the characters too much to let go.

The book that started it all!
Ahhh, this book is what started my current obsession with PNR novels. I was bored at work and so I looked up new things to read on Amazon. Read the chapter 1 teaser and was hooked. I love Lachlain and I love Emmaline. I thought both of their storylines were very authentic and honest. After I finished it I ran out and bought every Kresley Cole IAD book I could get my hot little hands on. That ...

I am reviewing unabridged audio CD
This summer, as I drag my children here and there on vacation, I have started "reading" as we march. I load my iPod with audio books. One of my recent, and longest, entries was The Historian. I had doubts that I would be able to listen to such a long book on cd, but it was actually so full of intrigue as well as interesting tidbits of history that it kept my attention, mostly. There were ...

Sookie Branches Out
Reviewer: Renee S. NYC July 24,2008.
Since there are already a plethora of reviews both praising and denigrating this book, I'll only tell you why I loved it. I was happy that Ms. Harris was letting Sookie move on and out, in terms of new situations and new types of characters. A Fairy Grandfather, witches and, of course, Bob the Cat. I was also glad to see Barry the Bellhop show up again. Sookie needs to know someone else who is ...

Flagship King
I had long avoided this book because of it's length. I just wasn't sure that even a great author like Stephen King could keep me captivated for that long with a stand alone novel. I was told by a co-worker that I was not a true Stephen King fan if I had not read "The Stand", and the gauntlet was thrown down. I loved this book. From start to finish I was hooked. The first section of the book ...

Another page-turner from Picoult!
I could NOT put this book down! I enjoy how Picoult can weave in history into a story. I also loved how the book moved from character to character until you could connect all the dots together. I was surprised a few times by the turn of events, and I was surprised also at the ending. If you like mystery, fantasy, romance, and history, then this is the book for you!

Best book yet in the Southern Vampire series. Although I am dissapointed in Bill the vamire, you can not help but admire Sookie's strength and mental fortitude. Poor kid...it's amazing she's survived thorugh book III and hasn't let Eric or Bill bring her over. Already started Dead to the World and ordered all the books, I CAN'T wait to finish the series (although I will really miss these ...

Going in a new direction...
To respond to some of the less than enthusiastic reviews, the author's note states that she's taking Betsy in a new direction. This book is a transition of sorts, I believe, and we will see Betsy grow in future books. Let's face it: Betsy has been a bit scattered and she has not always taken her new responsibilities as seriously as she should. I enjoyed this book as much as previous books, and I ...

Worth reading even if you don't like the genre
Truthfully this is a brutal book about a psychopath. It is also a compulsively readable book. I find violent movies and violent books repulsive as a rule, but sometimes I come across one and give in and read it. And then put it down as unbearable because the story or the character is not good enough to outweigh my revulsion at the topic. I guess I have a nervous stomach or a vivid imagination. I ...

This book is great!
I absolutely adore this book! This is one I can read over and over again, and still be able to laugh! Even though it's a fictional book, it makes Jesus (Joshua)human and you enjoy following Biff and Joshua on their search for what it means to be the Messiah. The angel Raziel is hilarious, too, with his aspiration to become Spider-man! This book got me hooked on Christopher Moore!

A void filled
Being a buffy and angel fan, I was hestitant to actually start reading these. I read the other reviews, and noticed that the comics were written by the man himself. I also read the astonishing X-Men, written by Whedon, and knew he had a voice for comics. The only problem with this is it's too short. I was hoping for both volumes 1 & 2, to be combined into one for this. The stories are good ...
