The Selfish Gene: 30th Anniversary Edition--with a new Introduction by the Author 327 reviews Richard Dawkins
Oxford University Press, USA, 2006
amazing book, must read The book is amazing. Dawkins does a great job of explaining the theory of evolution, and goes on to explain how it (or generalizations thereof) can be applied in completely different contexts, like that of memes. I think everyone should read the book to understand some very important aspects of how our world works, and avoid common misconceptions related to natural selection.

Three Rivers Press, 2009
A MUST FOR IN A COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP I hope that this book is read by everyone who is interested in learning why we behave in certain manners as it relates to relationships. I am a psychotherapist and have taken the liberty to share parts of Dr. Amen's book with some of my clients. You cannot imagine the response I am receiving. From drop open mouths, to blank looks ... people are amazed by how our brain plays such a significant ...

Anatomy Coloring Book, The (3rd Edition) 124 reviews Wynn Kapit, Lawrence M. Elson
Benjamin Cummings, 2001
Great massage review LOVE this anatomy coloring book! I'm studying for my national massage boards and love this because it shows muscle attachment points. Great for a visual learner. I'd definitely recommend getting at least 20 markers, if not more, to distinguish differences easier - I got the Crayola thick/thin smaller markers and they worked very well. Lighter colors filling a page are easier to look at than a ...

Why Evolution Is True 107 reviews Jerry A. Coyne
Penguin (Non-Classics), 2010
Essential Reading on this Subject "Why Evolution Is True" is a well written, informative, very convincing defense of the truth and accuracy of evolution. The author, Jerry Coyne, does an excellent job of presenting a complex subject in a readable and understandable fashion. The book is filled with innumerable examples, which clarify and support the positions the author has taken.
The book is also quite persuasive of the ...

The Origin Of Species: 150th Anniversary Edition 38 reviews Charles Darwin
Signet Classics, 2003
Book report: The Origin of Species, by Charles Darwin When it comes to subjects like biology and medicine, I am an absolute moron. I only barely avoided failing the one and only biology class I ever took, thanks to an absurd amount of extra-credit outside reading assignments and a science fair project that I still don't understand. I can never remember if DNA is made out of chromosomes or the other way around. Same with proteins and amino acids. I'm ...

The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution 197 reviews Richard Dawkins
Free Press, 2009
Well written, entertaining and fact (not fiction) It rather disturbs me that books like this are necessary. The reality-deniers persist, trying to force their thunder gods and sky demons on us. This book provides the ammunition you'll need to defend yourself from the onslaught. Professor Dawkins presents the overwhelming evidence in favor of evolution in easily understood terms. This is less aggressive than some of his past writing and instead ...

Examkrackers 1001 Questions in MCAT Biology 19 reviews Alex Merkulov
Osote Publishing, 2004
Got me a 34. Did every question in this book and saw my AAMC practice scores increase over the weeks. I did 1 section of the book each week for 3 months leading up to the real thing, and got me a 12 (started with 8, then 9s, then 10/11, then consistent 12s on my practice tests). I am still in the process of applying, but feel much more confident with a 34 on my plate thanks to this book.

The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter, & Miracles 315 reviews Bruce H. Lipton Ph.D.
Hay House, 2008
A Big Step Forward in Mind/Body Research and Treatment In this ground-breaking book Bruce H. Lipton presents scientific research that supports the age-old anecdotal evidence and theories regarding the power of positive thinking.
In "The Biology of Belief" Lipton discloses that it isn't DNA and genes that control our body and destiny, but signals from outside our cells, especially our thoughts, that influence the DNA. He asserts that it is these ...

Second Nature: A Gardener's Education 32 reviews Michael Pollan
Grove Press, 2003
excellent This book is a must read, a real page turner. Sit back with a cup of something to drink and soak this book in. Get cozy, you may not want to put it down for a while. Enjoy Pollens style of writing and his good natured humor. I myself enjoyed the battle with the woodchuck as I have done my time with maurading gophers in my day. There is often a moral deliema that comes with the territory of ...

An Entirely Synthetic Fish: How Rainbow Trout Beguiled America and Overran the World 4 reviews Anders Halverson

Even if you don't fish, this is a MUST read In the few months since its publication, Anders Halverson's An Entirely Synthetic Fish has capture imaginations of a wide ranging audience - from avid fly fishers to the Diane Rehm Show, and rightfully so. In An Entirely Sythetic Fish, Halvers deftly tells the tale of how well intended programs have gone utterly wrong, putting the treasures of trout anglers at risk, while simultaneously spreading ...

The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology 150 reviews Ray Kurzweil
Penguin (Non-Classics), 2006
Great! Very well written and documented, Kurzweil is obviously an insider. Gripping overview of things to come; sets you thinking for a while "who are we, people?" and 'what are we doing, really?". Makes you want to know more about other 'singularitans' and 'transhumanists'.

Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design 229 reviews Stephen C. Meyer
HarperOne, 2009
What is the Premise of Intelligent Design? Stephen Meyer answers this question. But why was the creation of this excellent work necessary? What could motivate Stephen Meyer to make himself (and his family) a target for the inevitable derogation and questioning of his credentials, intellect and character? The simple fact is this; the evolutionists have declared war on any thought not of their origin, indeed academia is generally ...

Evolution: How We and All Living Things Came to Be 10 reviews Daniel Loxton
Kids Can Press, Ltd., 2010
My 8-year-old daughter loves it I picked this up for my 8-year-old 3rd grade daughter. She loves it! It's a great book that really explains not only the science of evolution, but also strays into many other sciences. It also deals with many of the common objections to evolution in a way that a child can easily understand. Really, this is one of the best science books for kids I've seen in a long time. Highly recommended!

No Excuses!: How What You Say Can Get In Your Way 17 reviews Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Kristina Tracy
Hay House, 2009
Great! Helpful aid in teaching children I love this book. I heard about it from OSU Channel 34 one night when Dr. Wayne Dyer was talking about "No More Excuses" for adults. I really bought this child's book for myself, because I learn better when the material is short and clear. Then I got a set for a friend that is an elementary school teacher to use in her class.

CliffsAP Biology (Cliffs Ap Biology) 105 reviews Phillip E. Pack Ph.D.
Cliffs Notes, 2007
My Happy Review =) I've been taking notes on this book, and you only take notes on the important things. I've been taking notes on almost EVERYTHING. This is probably one of the best sources to learn AP Bio from. It's full of stuff that you will NEED to know and it doesn't skimp on the details. It is also a quick way to learn and is very interesting. I highly recommend this book.
