Bistro Cooking28 reviews
Patricia Wells

Workman Publishing Company, 1989

can't be beat
This is a cookbook as a cookbook should be. The recipes are direct, succinct and just what one needs to prepare the dish without elaborate fuss. And most of the dishes are great. If I had to settle for one cookbook only, this would be it.

The Baby Bistro Cookbook: Healthy, Delicious Cuisine for Babies, Toddlers, and You31 reviews
Joohee Muromcew

Rodale Books, 2003

Good meals for my 13 month old
This book has good recipes for my 13 month old. I've mainly cooked the main dishes - beans and rice, chicken nuggets, Korean BBQ, cheesy chicken and brocolli. He likes them all. I haven't tried the breads yet, but those seem like good recipes with lower sugar than usual. Make sure you buy enough little containers to hold the leftovers for the freezer though I was thinking of trying ziploc ...

The Authentic Bistros of Paris7 reviews
Francois Thomazeau

Little Bookroom, 2005

Bistro your way through Paris!
This is a GREAT book for the money. Lots of full color pictures so you really get a feel for each place, organized by arrondissement so you can find a bistro no matter what neighborhood you happen to be in, good write-ups, and small enough to take in your purse. And apart from the prices, the information about the places will probably be pretty timeless.

Bistro: The Best of Casual French Cooking (The Casual Cuisines of the World)5 reviews
Gerald Hirigoyen

Sunset Publishing Corporation, 1995

Excellent recipes with enticing illustrations
After making most of the recipes in this book, we've decided it's one of the best we own. Everything we have made from this book has been exceptionally tasty and original, and many are relatively easy. We use it a lot during the week when our time for cooking is very limited. Don't let it's slim size and pretty pictures deter you -the illustrations are helpful and enticing, and the ...

The Bistros, Brasseries, and Wine Bars of Paris: Everyday Recipes from the Real Paris1 review
Daniel Young

William Morrow Cookbooks, 2006

Incredible for Francophiles and foodies
I picked this book up expecting the recipes to be a bit out of my humble culinary grasp, and to mostly get a feel for everyday French foods and how the flavors and textures interact. I love to read books like Peter Mayle's A Year in Provence and to enjoy new experiences and places through writing. This book surpassed my expectations. The recipes are simple, yet are not things I would have ever ...

The Vegetarian Bistro: 250 Authentic French Regional Recipes5 reviews
Marlena Spieler

Chronicle Books, 1997

Great French Fare
This cookbook offers a great selection of dishes that taste like authentic French fare. The author provides short vignettes with each recipe, sort of travelogue pieces that set the stage for the dish. There are charming illustrations peppered throughout the book. The writing is straight-forward and the author's zest is apparent. She is more liberal with the fats than I would be, but this is ...

If you have dined at any of the restaurants listed in this book, you'll want it (Le Grand Véfour, Jules Verne, Taillevant...)
