Shoulder the Sky3 reviews
Lesley

Boardwalk Books, 2002

spellbinding read
This is the most amazing young adult book i have read in a long time. "Shoulder the Sky" is filled with humour, philosophy and keen observations, ideas commonly excluded by many, many crappy YA books out there. Lesley Choyce challenges the reader to think outside the box, and raises concepts we should be aware of - existentialism, for example. I am not a fan of history, science, or philosophy, ...

Boardwalk Memories: Tales of the Jersey Shore6 reviews
Emil R. Salvini

Globe Pequot, 2005

A "must have" for lovers of the Jersey Shore
Reading this book is like taking a walk down Memory Lane. It brought back so many fond memories of my childhood trips "down the shore" Salvini's attention to detail and wonderful collection of historical photographs are absolutely astounding. A must read for anyone who grew up at the Jersey Shore!

Boardwalk of Dreams: Atlantic City and the Fate of Urban America2 reviews

Oxford University Press, USA, 2004

Review from the New Orleans Times-Picayune
No one can deny that casinos have brought money and crowds back to Atlantic City. Since the first casino opened in 1978, gambling corporations have invested six billion dollars in the old resort town and, during the 1990s, more tourists visited Atlantic City than any other place in the United States including Las Vegas and Disneyworld. Each year, the city entertains twice the population of ...

Kate4 reviews
Valerie Sherrard

Boardwalk Books, 2003

A Poignant Novel
I read Kate together with my book club at school. I recommended it in the first place, already having read Mrs. Sherrard's Shelby Belgarden mysteries (which I loved). It was a quick and wonderful read. I found that when I was reading, it became increasingly harder to put it down. I'd even neglect my homework to continue reading it. Kate is so real - and incredibly brave. She was fourteen, and ...

Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City8 reviews
Nelson Johnson

Plexus Publishing (NJ), 2002

A Shore Bet
I am pleased to be the first reader from Atlantic City to review this book. It goes without saying that it was of special interest to me. Throughout my life I have met several of the key figures in this book, so it was fascinating to learn more about their lives. I enjoyed reading this book very much and would recommend it to anyone interested in Atlantic City. It was well written and ...

Jane Mills

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 1985

This is a sensational book for kids from grades 4 to 7. An adopted girl believes that she is not as loved as her parents' real children. It's realistic, funny, sad....

The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk: A Century by the Sea2 reviews
Santa Cruz Seaside Company

Ten Speed Press, 2007

Good book, excellent pictures
The pictures make this book! It would have been great if there were a few more pictures of the various rides.. but thats not what this book is about. From 1800s to 2007, it's all in here!

America's Boardwalks: From Coney Island to California1 review
James Lilliefors

Rutgers University Press, 2006

Well written book that brings back great Boardwalk memories!
America's Boardwalks is a stylish book that took me back to my childhood vacations on the Jersey Shore. In reading the chapters on Wildwood and Atlantic City, I could almost smell the salt sea air mingled with boardwalk food smells. Remenber Salt water taffy? Diving horses? Various "wild" men and women? Carnies with all sorts of games? Anyone who has "walked the boards" is sure to take a ...

Boardwalk Bust1 review
Franklin W Dixon

SIMON & SCHUSTER CHI, 2006

The Hardy Boys At The Jersey Shore
"Boardwalk Bust" finds Frank and Joe down at the New Jersey shore investigating a rash of jewelry store robberies. Along the way they are almost buried alive and drowned! Nevertheless, the Boys overcome all obstacles in tracking down the culprit amid a slew of likely suspects. Plenty of action and some decent detecting make this story another winner in the new "Undercover Brothers" series.

Beyond Boardwalk and Park Place1 review
Noel Gunther, Richard Hutton

Bantam, 1986

An excellent way to make the game fun again!
This book does an excellent job of making the game fun again! It puts a lot more skill into the game (rather than the old "land on something and buy it" characteristic of the original version). When I first got this book (when I was in college), two of us in the dorm tried to get our friend to play with the new rules. He wanted to play the old way, but we convinced him to play the new way. ...

Shades of Red2 reviews
kc dyer

Boardwalk Books, 2005

Superb finish to the trilogy
I love all of kc dyer's time travel novels, but I must admit that this one is the best of the three. The historical details are as wonderfully accurate as ever and the story is a page-turner, but I found that the characters in Shades of Red were more richly developed than in the previous two novels. I especially enjoyed the contemporary scenes and Darrell's interactions with her mother.

The Unwritten Girl2 reviews
James Bow

Boardwalk Books, 2006

Courtesy of Teens Read Too
Rosemary Watson likes the company of books much better than that of people her own age. Which explains her hesitance to accept the help of the new boy, Peter. That and the weird thing she saw in the library right before. It looked like a girl, but it folded up and disappeared. The only thing Rosemary knows for sure is that it was angry. And if there's anything worse than a hallucination, it's one ...

The Boardwalk Album: Memories of the Beach1 review
Barbaranne Boyer

Boston Mills Press, 2000

A tribute to a bygone era
A short but well-written account of a bygone era, when people by the thousands would each summer flock to The Beach district of Toronto. The book deals with the specific parks that came and went, as well as a few landmarks of the area. Included are numerous photos. Although the book is fairly thin, the author's intent to convey the spirit of this unique time and place is very much a success. ...
