School Book Review
Would you ever want to be chased by a big buffalo? I read a book about two kids that did. It is called Buffalo Before Breakfast by Mary Pope Osborne. This book is about a boy named Jack, a girl named Annie and a dog named Teddy. They travel back in time. This story is also about the buffalo and Native Americans. This is a really cool book. One of my favorite parts is when they saw a huge ...

Buffalo Bill and the Pony Express
The story set the pace right from the first page. It was one adventure after another. The bright illustrations set the tone for each adventure. This was the first book my son said he couldn't wait to get to the next chapter ( it's set up in only 4 chapters), because he had to know what happened to Bill Cody.

A Novel Rich in Imagery and Style
Charles Baxter is mining new territory in his latest novel THE SOUL THIEF, and while his trademark keen character development ability remains intact, he takes a step further into the realm of spiritual surrealism - and makes it work on every page! Nathaniel Mason is the character with the 'available soul', a graduate student whose life is operating on a subsistence level, partially due to ...

Buffalo writers share real stories and lessons learned
This book was recommended to me by Jim, a successful businessman I met on an airplane early in 2007. He said it was the best business advice book he had ever read. So I put it on my wish list and never thought too much about it until December when I was ordering several books to read for the start of the new year. I wasn't sure I would like the book -- it was written in 1993 and I wondered if ...

A Huge Hit in Our House!
My 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter demanded I read this to them again. This is the first time they have ever requested a chapter book be read a second time. They wait for their favorite lines and speak them along with me, laughing the whole time. My daughter plans to write a letter to the author asking for more stories about the toys, also a first. What a wonderful book!

Business Law-Smith and Roberson
This book is well-organized and written. It covers the major subject areas for the CPA exam thoroughly. There is more than adequate treatment in the areas of contract law, sales transactions, agency, partnerships, corporate formation and the minor subject areas of the CPA examination. There is good coverage of legal foundations with ample exercises to develop the legal concepts presented. This ...

A pleasant return to Buffalo Valley!!!
I just love the Debbie Macomber's books. Her Christmas books are particularly welcome and BUFFALO VALLEY is no exception. Vaughn Kyle is visiting Buffalo Valley at the request of his girlfriend, an executive with a large discount superstore which has plans to open a store in the little town. It's been many years since Vaughn had visited the town his mother grew up in, but he's happy to check ...

Big Russ and Me
I highly recommend this audio book. Tim Russert does a great job talking about the importance of his relationship with his dad. It is very heart warming and inspiring. Our family listened to it together on a trip back from Florida. Everyone enjoyed it. Tim is a great communicator.Big Russ and Me: Father and Son--Lessons of Life

Thanks, Kindra!
I'm not normally a lover of Westerns, but I have Mr. Kelton's granddaughter in a class I teach and she talked a lot about her author grandfather, so I finally gave in and purchased a copy of one of his books. I guess I owe the granddaughter a big "Thank you," as "Buffalo Wagons" is terrific! Gage Jameson is an unusually well-rounded character for the genre. A veteran buffalo hunter, he has ...

William F. Cody was born in the middle of the nineteenth century on the plains of Kansas Territory where his family had settled to trade with the friendly Kickapoo Tribe. These Natives were Bill's childhood playmates and at a tender age he traded his brand-new buckskin suit for a little wild Indian pony that he learned to ride like the wind. By the time he was twelve, he was doing the work of a grown man as a cattle driver, camping under the ...

Engaging, inside story
We all think of professional athletes as pampered stars who believe that the world revolves around them. Rayzor's Edge shows what it is really like for a kid growing up in a small town in Canada, working his way through junior hockey, dreaming to one day play in the NHL. What I liked most about this book was the honest and open way the authors described the fears and insecurities of Rob Ray, ...

One Saturday morning in February 1972, an impoundment dam owned by the Pittston Coal Company burst, sending a 130 million gallon, 25 foot tidal wave of water, sludge, and debris crashing into southern West Virginia's Buffalo Creek hollow. It was one of the deadliest floods in U.S. history. 125 people were killed instantly, more than 1,000 were injured, and over 4,000 were suddenly homeless. Instead of accepting the small settlements offered by ...

Best Star Wars movie novelization of the six
Matthew Stover, author of the excellent Mace Windu novel Shatterpoint, does not disappoint with his novelization of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Movie novelizations are often inconsequential by-products of a marketing push behind a big event picture, but in Stover's case, he strongly builds upon the film plot and adds meaningful substance to what was already a great story. Rather ...

Another Bernard Cornwell? I think so, but
he's not copying either Cornwell's style or characters. Wilcox is definitely his own man and his hero is no Sharpe. Simon Fonthill, while capable of handling himself in combat every bit as efficiently as Sharpe, doesn't like the army and seems to be trying his best to stay out of it. Despite all his efforts however, he cannot eliminate the armed forces from his life and becomes involved mainly ...

Held my attention from beginning to end.
I LOVED this book. The story line and character development where very well done. You could truly feel each character's personality and plight. I also enjoyed how history on the buffalo soldier was weaved throughout the book. Great read -- kept my attention from start to finish. In fact, I was sorry to see it end, but did very much enjoy how it ended.
