Obsidian Butterfly (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: Book 9) 323 reviews Laurell K. Hamilton
Jove, 2002
My new favorite in this series! I really liked this entry in the series. Edward has always been my favorite character (besides Anita of course), and I'd missed him in the recent books, so I was glad to see he had such a huge role in this one. In this book, Edward calls in his favor from Anita and she travels to Arizona to assist him in investigating a series of mutilation murders. We get some insight into Edward's character ...

Butterfly Butterfly: A Book of Colors 1 review
Candlewick, 2007
Must Have for my 19 month old I saw this in our local bookstore and had to have it. My instincts were right, because my 19 month-old can't get enough of the beautiful illustrations and the story is just simple enough so that my four year-old can read it to her sister before bedtime. The colors used are vibrant and interesting, and the pop-up butterfly at the end is a great surprise for the young ones. Great for ...

In the Time of the Butterflies 153 reviews Julia Alvarez
Plume, 1995
"Thou art strong and great, a hero." My sister-in-law bought this as a gift for me years ago and it ended up being one of my top 5 favorite novels of all time.
"In the Time of the Butterflies" is the true story of 4 sisters living in the Dominican Republic during the reign of the dictator Rafael Trujillo ("El Jefe"). Trujillo's reign was incredibly violent and he took personal pleasure in using fear and torture to achieve his ...

National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Butterflies (National Audubon Society Field Guide ... 17 reviews NATIONAL AUDUBON SOCIETY
Knopf, 1981
Great field guide! Though it took a bit longer than expected to arrive, i am very pleased. The color photos are great. Some times I wish it had the little map of the US to show the range of the butterflies, but this is not a big deal. Over all a great field guide.

Then, along comes The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Our protagonist, Frenchman Jean-Dominique Bauby, 43, was in the prime of life, editor of Elle, with a sports car, three adoring children, a mistress, and the world by the proverbial tail. Puffin, 1996
Nature learning experience Lynne Cherry's illustration of this book are so realistic they look like photographs. The book has exceptional detail from the flowery meadow to all the creatures living in it. The poetic text and illustrations describe the life cycle of a swallowtail butterfly with great accuracy. A wonderful story for nature lovers.

I Never Saw Another Butterfly 23 reviews Hana Volavkova
Schocken, 1994
Insightful Book As a school teacher, I found a wonderful use for this book in my classroom. My 6th grade history class studies the Holocaust and was participating in the Houston Holocaust Museum's Butterfly Project. This book helped my students understand some of the feelings and problems faced by children housed at Terezin Concentration Camp during WWII.

Random House Books for Young Readers, 2007
My 7 year old loves these books! My 7 year old son loves these books. Especially since he's learning a lot of these subjects in 1st grade. He keeps checking these books out at the library so I know it's a safe bet. I catch my 10 & 9 yr old girls reading them too! My 4 yr old will listen to them occasionally being read aloud. I am excited that there is a fun way for kids to learn about science.

Good Night, Sweet Butterflies (Mini Edition): A Color Dreamland 33 reviews Dawn Bentley
Little Simon, 2007
A beautiful bedtime book Reading this book is our bedtime ritual since when my daughter was 7 months old. We would make up stories and talk to the animals/bugs/flowers in the book and sing to them. My daughter loves it. It's a beautiful book to read before bed and it probably will bring sweet dreams to the little sleepy head, who knows... it's an excellent book to each babies colors as well.

Dramatists Play Service Inc, 1998
I Was Left Breathless I recently saw a performance of M. Butterfly at a local theatre, and I was left utterly speechless. The acting was extremely powerful, which brought the story and its themes to life better than any book could. Nevertheless, I'm going to buy a copy of the play!

The Roar of the Butterflies Reginald Hill
Doubleday Canada, 2008
Luton in the grip of a sweltering summer is a pretty sedentary place–which is bad for the private detective business. Thieves, fraudsters and philanderers take the month off and the only swingers in town are the ones to be found on the 19th hole of the Royal Hoo Golf Course. The civilized reputation of the “Hoo” is in trouble, however. Shocking allegations of cheating have been directed at one of its leading members, Chris ...

Are You a Butterfly? (Backyard Books) 2 reviews Judy Allen, Tudor Humphries
Kingfisher, 2003
Food for the Imagination Written as if the author is speaking directly to the reader, this wonderful book draws the reader into the world of the butterfly. It does a very appropriate job of explaining the life cycle of the butterfly in terms a preschooler can understand. The illustrations are also quite nice, not too detailed or flowery, not too plain. They complement the simple text very well. Especially nice are the ...
