Thunder Cake
This is a wonderful book ! My grandaughter's teacher had the kids read it in class. I made a thunder cake and took it in for the class when they were done. The receipe is in the back of the book. They loved it and it was a lot of fun. Also, a good book for children afraid of thunder storms. I highly recommend it.

The Cake Bible158 reviews
Rose Levy Beranbaum

William Morrow Cookbooks, 1988

The ultimate authority on cakes
Rose Levy Berenbaum has written the last word on baking beautiful and delicious cakes at home. Period. End of Story. Her approach is precise and scientific, as all good baking must be. Her instructions are detailed and, if followed precisely--and with the requisite skills--are absolutely foolproof. So why the negative reviews? Well, folks, the truth is that most home cooks who think they ...

I Was Told There'd Be Cake71 reviews
Sloane Crosley

Riverhead Trade, 2008

Fantastic! Please disregard odd 1-star reviews for this 5-star winner
I actually heard about this book from a friend who used to write for Saturday Night Live and since I always take her recommendations, I went out and got it immediately. At first I wasn't sure - what could Crosley have to say about topics that were so familiar to me? - then I realized that's exactly where the genius (yes, I am using that word) lies. Sloane Crosley articulates the details of the ...

A Piece of Cake: A Memoir167 reviews
Cupcake Brown

Three Rivers Press, 2007

Could not put it down
I have to say, the cover of this book is what caught my eye at the store. Bright, in your face, and cheesy. But the inside, was filet mignon. It was AMAZING. I could not put it down. I missed nights of sleep, saying to myself, "go to bed after this next chapter" and yet at the end of each, I could not help myself from going to the next. Bravo Cupcake, you have written an amazing book. It was a ...

Martha Stewart's Wedding Cakes...Awesome!
I purchased this book because I was interested in learning how to make wedding cakes. My first, which wasn't even a wedding cake, it was my neice's 3rd birthday cake, came out so beautifully. I used the recipes for the Vanilla Bean Sponge Cake and the Chocolate Butter Cake...both were PHENOMENAL and I got rave reviews. I even had three people inquire about me making cakes for them!!! Although ...

The Confetti Cakes Cookbook: Spectacular Cookies, Cakes, and Cupcakes from New York City's Famed Bakery55 reviews
Elisa Strauss, Christie Matheson

Little, Brown and Company, 2007

the one and only recipe i tried was great!
i was given this book by a friend who believes it contains the "best ever" recipe for red velvet cake. i have made many and find them ironically either too oily or too dry. this one is quite good, i admit, albeit not the best ever. in any event, the cooking time was wrong! having done a considerable amount of baking myself, i knew i would not need to bake 3 9-inch cakes for 45 minutes. i set my ...

This is a GREAT baking book. I've tried several recipes already and they were all mouthwatering! So many varieties of baked goods are covered in this book, it's almost like a breakfast baking bible. Professional Cake Decorating17 reviews
Toba M. Garrett

Wiley, 2006

Love it!
This book has a textbook quality I love. I love reading so maybe that's why I took to this book and keep referring to it even though I haven't done anything in it yet. It is a bit pricey, but she covers lots of ground in cake decorating from icing a cake to piping to making a sugar vase for a cake topper.

Bunny Cakes (Max and Ruby)24 reviews

Puffin, 2000

Red Hot Marshmallow Squirters?
I love Max and Ruby, way before they were on TV. "Bunny Cakes" is one of my favorites. Rosemary Wells uses such simplistic words and phrases yet they are eloquently written. Ruby's making Grandma a birthday cake and Max decides to make one, too...from dirt and worms. But his cake is missing something: Red Hot Marshmallow Squirters. See how Max finally gets them and then wonder: Which cake will ...

Frankenstein Takes the Cake2 reviews
Adam Rex

Harcourt Children's Books, 2008

Let them read Frankenstein
I like cake. I like Frankenstein. Ipso facto: I like Frankenstein Takes the Cake. Oh fine. Maybe it's a little more complicated than that. Maybe I like other things about the book too. Perhaps the art. Maybe the characters. And there's always the off chance that what I really like about is that it's a picture book/poetry sequel that takes cool monsters and makes them loveable. Rex's first ...
