Concepts of Chemical Dependency2 reviews
Harold E. Doweiko

Brooks Cole, 2008

Critique of Concepts of Chemical Dependency by Doweiko
This book gives a solid overview of chemicals of use/abuse, focusing particularly upon alcohol. The one caveat I have about recommending it unconditionally is that the author seems to interweave his bias along with the factual material, such that it is sometimes hard to tease out the actual facts from the propaganda. But the book is user-friendly and, if someone is wanting to get an overall ...

Chemistry and Chemical Reactivity33 reviews

students and penny-pinchers
the international paperback version of this book is exactly the same as the hardback version and it's considerably less expensive. it comes with the CD-ROM but does NOT provide OWL or online access codes to the web based program- but you can purchase those separately at the thomas learning website... and you'd still be saving money. as for the book, I've only been using it 3 weeks but I like ...

Elements of Chemical Reaction Engineering (4th Edition) (Prentice Hall International Series in the Physical ...16 reviews
H. Scott Fogler

Prentice Hall PTR, 2005

Excellent Book
In contrast with what my fellow Ann Arbor reviewer (and most likely UM ChE student), I tended to think that Fogler's book was an excellent way by which to learn the principles of Chemical Reaction Engineering. The book is well organized and while the chapters may skip some, the principle chapters (1-6 in the sixth printing) are the recommended starting chapters. Once passing through chapters 1 - ...

Exploring Chemical Analysis8 reviews
Daniel C. Harris

W. H. Freeman, 2008

Great Analytical Chem book/Chem ref
This book was a required text for my analytical chemistry class. I was at first a bit worried about it, I tend to be picky about chemistry textbooks, but I quickly fell in love with this one. The chapters are short and to the point (most between 20 and 30 pages). Harris tells you what you need to know and gives some good examples in those 20 pages. Other books I have had to use took in excess of ...

Elementary Principles of Chemical Processes, 3rd Edition 2005 Edition Integrated Media and Study Tools, with ...3 reviews
Richard M. Felder, Ronald W. Rousseau

Wiley, 2005

Excellent coverage of process engineering principles
I am a senior chemical process engineer, and I found this text an excellent reference and aid for keeping current on the broad breath of information that comprises chemical process engineering.

Introduction to Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics (The Mcgraw-Hill Chemical Engineering Series)4 reviews
J.M. Smith, Hendrick C Van Ness, ...

McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math, 2004

Solid textbook
This is a solid thermo textbook. Goes over concepts and theories fairly well. There are plenty of worked out examples throughout the chapters and appendixes so you know what you're doing. The authors explain everything in a clear and cohesive manner. Somethings are overwhelming, but it is thermodynamics. Plenty of appendixes for steam tables, interroplation, unit conversions, and virial equation ...

Chemical Principles in the Laboratory1 review
Emil Slowinski, Wayne C. Wolsey, ...

Brooks Cole, 2000

Good introductory chemistry lab book
This book uses removable pages as prelabs which were very good in giving a conceptual idea of the experiments before they were done. Also, there are good flowcharts, equations for every step of the reactions, and formulas to help do the problems. All data that needs to be recorded is clearly mentioned in a form format.

Quantitative Chemical Analysis21 reviews
Daniel C. Harris

W.H.Freeman & Co Ltd, 2006

Why can't all chem books be like this?
The explanations and reasoning behind doing certain procedures and calculations in this book is outstandingly good (most of the time). Each chapter provides detailed workthroughs of problems with easy to understand explanations and in a wide enough variety of ways for one to be able to do most of the problems in the back of the chapter without TOO much trouble. The life saver though is the ...

Elementary Principles of Chemical Processes21 reviews
Richard M. Felder, Ronald W. Rousseau

Wiley, 2004

From an Industrial Practitioner of Process Measurement & Control
This book is an excellent reference on Chemical Processes Principles and Calculations for any engineer or practitioner working in the process industries. I am an Electronic Engineer, but I have been working for the last 16 years as an Instrumentation, Automation and Process Control Engineer for the Oil & Gas Industry. As a result I have been involved with Chemical Engineering issues in a day to ...

Quantitative Chemical Analysis & Solutions Manual2 reviews
Daniel C. Harris

W. H. Freeman, 2006

Good book bad shipping
The book was in great condition and it was really good condition. I paid for two day shipping. I ordered it on Wednesday and should have gotten it on Friday but I didn't get it until Monday or Tuesday afternoon. I watched the order tracker and it was in the warehouse ready to be shipped to me on Wednesday but it didn't ship till Thursday so I didn't get it till Monday or Tuesday.

Chemical, Biochemical, and Engineering Thermodynamics26 reviews
Stanley I. Sandler

Wiley, 2006

One of the best Thermodynamic books ever!!!
The book level is indeed a little bit high for an undergraduate student, in the other hand, it's very practical in representing how to perform REAL and USEFUL calculations. I have two degrees in chemical and Process Engineer, and if you are a person who must work very often with process programming and simulation, this book is essential. If you're looking for more common information, basic ...

Perry's Chemical Engineers' Handbook, Eighth Edition (Chemical Engineers Handbook)32 reviews
Don W. Green, Robert H. Perry

McGraw-Hill Professional, 2007

This is so funny
Check out what that kid wrote on October 25, 1999. He gave the book one star. Someone find him and tell him how much of an idiot he is. He wrote the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Who the hell reads Perry's cover to cover. Is he really that dumb just go buy a book about making bombs if you want to "make bombs". Another thing any normal person would realize after the first million pages is ...

Zumdahl Chemical Principles Sixth Edition
Steven S. Zumdahl

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2007

Known for helping students develop the qualitative, conceptual foundation that gets them thinking like chemists, this market-leading text is designed for students with solid mathematical preparation and prior exposure to chemistry. The unique organization of the text supports this qualitative-to-quantitative approach. A strong emphasis on models and everyday applications of chemistry combines with a thoughtful, step-by-step problem solving ...

Chemical Principles Study Guide, Fourth Edition8 reviews
Paul B. Kelter

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2001

Good and bad
The main strength of the book is its large amount of interesting and largely error-free problems. Unfortunately, some of the more advanced material isn't really well explained. A good example is the book's coverage of particle-in-a-box: it's covered well enough for a beginning student to solve some problems, but without the more thorough follow up you get in a quantum class, you're just pushing ...

Introduction to Chemical Principles (9th Edition)2 reviews
H. Stephen Stoker

Prentice Hall, 2007

A students point of view
I am a chem major and had the worst luck of having a terrible instructor and book for my introductory classes. After a few horrible attempts at teaching I asked a different professor if they had a book they recommended. I ttold them that I would be trying to do this independently from class and that as a chem major I would need get a good solid grounding in chem. The professor gave me this book ...
